    Asian Games 2026 Medal Tally: Golden run in hockey, cricket, wrestling, archery takes India into top 4

    NEW DELHI: India moved up to fourth place in the Asian Games 2026 medal tally after a big medal-winning day on Saturday. India added five gold medals across wrestling, golf, hockey, cricket and archery to take their overall tally to 85 medals – 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze.India’s men’s hockey team provided the final gold of the day, beating Malaysia 5-1 to retain the Asian Games title and secure a place at the 2028 Olympics. India also won gold through Aman Sehrawat in wrestling, Pranavi Urs in golf, the men’s cricket team and Kumkum Mohod in women’s individual recurve archery.

    India pip Uzbekistan to go fourth

    India’s five gold medals on Saturday made the biggest difference to their position in the table. From 18 gold medals and fifth place earlier in the day, India finished Saturday with 21 gold medals and moved into fourth.The five golds came from five different sports, underlining the spread of India’s medal-winning performances across the Games.With 85 medals in total, India are just one medal behind Kazakhstan’s 84, but their much higher gold count puts them comfortably ahead of Kazakhstan in the standings.

    Asian Games 2026 medal tally: Top 10 countries

    1. China — 341 medalsChina continue to lead the Asian Games medal table by a huge margin. They have won 169 gold, 89 silver and 83 bronze medals, giving them 341 medals overall. China are comfortably ahead in the gold-medal count as well as the overall tally.2. Japan — 269 medalsHosts Japan are second with 269 medals. They have won 83 gold, 95 silver and 91 bronze medals. Japan have more silver and bronze medals than China, but remain second because China have a much higher number of gold medals.3. South Korea — 150 medalsSouth Korea are in third place with 150 medals. Their tally includes 39 gold, 43 silver and 68 bronze medals. They are ahead of India in the overall ranking because of their higher gold-medal count.4. India — 85 medalsIndia have jumped to fourth place after their five-gold haul on Saturday. India’s tally stands at 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals, for a total of 85 medals. The five golds came in wrestling, golf, cricket, archery and men’s hockey. The hockey gold was particularly significant as India beat Malaysia 5-1 to retain the men’s title. Earlier, the women’s hockey team had also won gold, giving India a historic men’s and women’s hockey double at the same Asian Games. India’s 21 gold medals put them level with Uzbekistan, but India move ahead in the table based on the number of silver medals.5. Uzbekistan — 70 medalsUzbekistan are fifth with 70 medals. They have won 21 gold, 25 silver and 24 bronze medals. Their gold-medal tally is the same as India’s, but they have fewer silver and bronze medals, leaving them behind India in the standings.6. Iran — 52 medalsIran are sixth with 52 medals. Their tally consists of 19 gold, 18 silver and 15 bronze medals. Iran have fewer total medals than India and Uzbekistan, but their 19 gold medals keep them ahead of Thailand.7. Thailand — 52 medalsThailand also have 52 medals. They have won 18 gold, 13 silver and 21 bronze medals. Thailand are level with Iran on total medals but sit seventh because they have fewer gold medals.8. Kazakhstan — 84 medalsKazakhstan have an unusual position in the table. They have won 84 medals — 12 gold, 24 silver and 48 bronze — which is only one medal fewer than India’s total of 85. However, Kazakhstan are eighth because the Asian Games medal table is ranked by gold medals first, followed by silver and bronze.9. Hong Kong, China — 54 medalsHong Kong, China are ninth with 54 medals. Their tally includes 11 gold, 19 silver and 24 bronze medals. They have more total medals than Bahrain but fewer gold medals.10. Bahrain — 22 medalsBahrain complete the top 10 with 22 medals. They have won 11 gold, five silver and six bronze medals. Half of Bahrain’s total medals are gold, giving them a strong position despite having a much smaller overall medal tally than the countries above them.
