The Boston Bruins aren’t ready to go to Pavel Zacha’s number yet
NHL Rumour Report: Chris Johnston on Hockey PDOcast on pending UFA Pavel Zacha and his future with the Boston Bruins: “I know there’s a number they would sign him at, but the numbers don’t align in their mind with, with what the player wants in a…rising salary environment.”
Brenden Dillon didn’t veto a trade last season, as was reported last week
Daniel Amoia of NJ Hockey Now: Elliotte Friedman said early last week on The Fan Hockey Show that New Jersey Devils defenseman Brenden Dillon used his no-trade protection last season to veto a trade. Friedman corrected himself on Friday’s show that that wasn’t the case, as Dillon told him it was not true.
NHL Rumors: Rasmus Ristolainen, Patrik Laine, and Will There be More Offer Sheets?
“ Devils that used their protection, as is their contractually obligated right, and I heard the one was Dillon. I mentioned it, and he said it wasn’t true.”
We know that defenseman Dougie Hamilton was one of the players, as he vetoed a trade to the San Jose Sharks.
Dillon has been a healthy scratch for the Devils multiple times this season.
Toronto Maple Leafs GM downplays the idea of them trading for defensive help
Joshua Kloke of The Athletic: There has been speculation that the Toronto Maple Leafs are in the market for a defenseman, but GM John Chayka downplayed that.
“It’s been discussed much, but I think there’s no doubt we need to improve our defensive play overall to reach our ultimate goals. But I don’t think that transaction is necessarily always the way to improve.”
Now, with Chris Tanev out, their depth may not have a bona fide top-six option. For the time being, they will look to fill from within and see jumps at the opportunity.
The Leafs have just under $2.4 million in cap space with Max Domi, Dakota Joshua (could be recalled from his conditioning stint real soon) and Elvis Merzlikins on the LTIR. Chayka believes they still have some flexibility, and added that he would be comfortable making another blockbuster trade.
