Created on January 30, 2025 In its first rate announcment in 2025, the Federal Reserve hit the pause button and maintained the benchmark rate at a range between 4.25% and 4.5%. This follows three straight rate cuts, including a jumbo 50-basis point cut which started the easing cycle in September 2024.There were expectations that the Federal Reserve would aggressively start lowering rates, given that inflation has been largely contained. However, in December 2024 the Federal Reserve surprised the markets and projected only two rate cuts in 2025, down from four in the September forecast. The Federal Reserve had telegraphed to…
A career resolution is exactly what it sounds like: a resolution for your career intended to help you grow into a better professional. At Work It DAILY, we believe that you need to work on your career every day (yes, you do, in fact, need to “work it daily”). How leading universities are preparing the future workforce with digital and human skills
By Marni Baker Stein As online enrollment outpaces on-campus programs at nearly half of U.S. institutions, universities are continuing expanding their online catalogs. The 200+ universities on Coursera recently reached a major milestone, amassing more than 200 million course enrollments. Building on this momentum, nine new universities joined Coursera in 2024, including Clemson University, IMD Business School, International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, and Saïd Business School – University of Oxford. Below, discover how universities around the world are meeting the demand with top courses that teach job-relevant skills, like GenAI and project management, as well as foundational subjects, like…
In 1973, an author named Alan Lakein published a book titled How to Get Control of Your Time and Your Life. It wasn’t the first book about professional time management — my library contains a first edition of James McCay’s 1959 classic, The Management of Time — but it’s arguably the first book to talk about the topic in a recognizably modern way, with a focus on personalized tools like daily to-do lists. It went on to reportedly sell more than three million copies, and was even shouted out by Bill Clinton, who cites its influence on his early career…
Celebrity Music Video Cameos: The celebrities you forgot were in iconic music videos including Kim Kardashian, Channing Tatum, Tom Hanks and more
Angelina Jolie was the main star in the Rolling Stones’ Anybody Seen My Baby?, released in 1997. She plays a stripper who leaves mid-performance and wanders around the streets of NYC.The band’s lead singer, Mick Jagger, pursued Jolie romantically for a while after the video was filmed, but she rejected him. At the time, she was married to Jonny Lee Miller. The rock star kept calling Jolie, and according to Christopher Anderson’s book, Mick: The Wild Life and Mad Genius of Jagger, she relented and went with him to a party. But halfway through the “date”, he reportedly disappeared.
Sundance 2025: Sabar Bonda (Cactus Pears), DJ Ahmet, André Is an Idiot | Festivals & Awards
Unlike the rest of the dispatches I’ve written out of Sundance, the selections here are not defined by their competitive category. This one is a little bit more of a hodgepodge. “Sabar Bonda (Cactus Pears)” and “DJ Ahmet,” for instance, are from the World Dramatic section, while “André Is an Idiot” premiered as part of the US Documentary competition. I should’ve been mixing it up from the beginning because, in my opinion, the trio of films here are the strongest I’ve written about all fest. A sensual, tender queer romance, writer/director Rohan Kanawade’s semi-autobiographical feature debut “Sabar Bonda (Cactus Pears)”…
Man, we are already to the end of January and the month flew by. Luckily for you, we have another large batch of releases for you to peruse. I thought about the W.A.S.P. box set but at $126 for the CD and $250 for the Vinyl, not sure I’m that big a fan. Other than that, I don’t really have anything I want to grab…maybe stream only. Let me know what you want to hear this week or what we may have missed. Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend.
The latest inflation data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis largely confirm market expectations. The Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index (PCEPI), which is the Federal Reserve’s preferred measure of inflation, grew at a continuously compounding annualized rate of 3.1 percent in December 2024, up from 1.5 percent in the prior month. PCEPI inflation has averaged 2.2 percent over the last six months and 2.5 percent over the last twelve months. Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, was also in line with expectations. Core PCEPI grew at a continuously compounding annualized rate of 1.9 percent in December 2024,…
