REVIEW – For around 10 minutes last night, Sydney’s ENGIE Stadium was thrown into near-silence during the middle of Bad Bunny‘s sold-out second show.

But this was no accident. It’s somewhat of a ritual during his Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour, a moment that allows Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio to personally greet many of the 40,000-strong crowd without distraction.

The music cut, the speakers went dead and the stadium was only fuelled by the roar of thousands of fans chanting his name.

    Watch the video above.

I’ve never seen anything like it.

It was minutes of both calm and euphoria in what was easily one of the most high-octane sets I’ve ever witnessed.

Minutes before, the 31-year-old Puerto Rican megastar had commanded the stage into a dancing frenzy, blasting out global hits like BAILE INoLVIDABLE and Tití Me Preguntó to a vibrant, flamboyant sea of fans.

    Then came the hush.

We watched as the big screen followed Benito’s gaze into the crowd, and even hand-pick one lucky fan to join him on-stage for the dance party of the year.

An emotional hug and a signed hat later, that fan had the best seat in the house for the rest of the show. It was surreal, magical and just fantastic.

I’ll admit it now: I was ignorantly unaware of the Bad Bunny hype until his history-making Super Bowl gig blew the lid off my expectations.

Sure, I’d heard a couple of songs here and there, but that performance – a celebration and diversity in a world of darkness – brought out an obsession in me and everyone around me that I’d never felt before.

Last night’s spectacle at ENGIE Stadium took everything the Super Bowl offered and dialled it up to eleven.

He entered the stage wearing an eggshell suit and signature tinted sunglasses, and from that moment on the crowd lapped up his every move.

The energy from every audience member was nothing short of joyful, and before I knew it we were whipping out dance moves I hadn’t done since I was a teenager.

One thing’s for sure – there’s a reason everyone in the world is talking about this man. A man who days ago hit headlines after tipping a waitress in Sydney with a ticket to his show so she could experience the party for herself.

He’s an all-round nice guy who just happens to be dripping with charisma, and we were just happy to be taken along for the ride.

One thing that was particularly interesting was the addition of ‘cameras’ for every ticketholder, which were just fancy LED lights that flashed in synchronised colours as each song played.

It unified the crowd in a way that others have done before, but this felt somewhat more special.

While Bad Bunny addressed the crowd largely in Spanish, nothing was lost in translation – he was here for everyone, and that’s exactly what it felt like.

In a world that often feels heavy, this was a night of pure, unadulterated celebration.

The Super Bowl proved that diversity is our greatest strength, but last night proved Bad Bunny can transform any stadium into a global party where language is no barrier.
