BAN vs WI Match Preview:
Bangladesh will take on West Indies in the opening Test of their two-match series from Wednesday, 28 October 2026, at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. The match is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM IST. With the series forming part of the ICC World Test Championship, both teams will have valuable points to pursue as they look to strengthen their positions in the competition. Bangladesh will aim to capitalise on home advantage, while West Indies will seek a confident start on foreign soil.
Bangladesh will rely on their experienced batting lineup, led by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and supported by Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das. Meanwhile, Shadman Islam and Tanzid Hasan provide options at the top of the order. The hosts also possess considerable bowling strength through Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam, whose spin could become increasingly influential as the match progresses. In addition, Taskin Ahmed brings valuable pace and experience alongside Hasan Mahmud and Nayeem Hasan. To establish control, Bangladesh must build a substantial first-innings total before using their varied bowling attack to put the visitors under sustained pressure.
West Indies, meanwhile, will look to John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul to provide a steady start, with Brandon King, Kavem Hodge and Justin Greaves adding depth to the batting order. Joshua Da Silva and Amir Jangoo offer wicketkeeping options, while Jomel Warrican and Joshua Bishop strengthen the spin department. Furthermore, Shamar Joseph could pose a significant threat with his pace and ability to trouble batters. With Roston Chase leading the touring side, West Indies will need to handle Bangladesh’s spinners patiently while exploiting any assistance the conditions offer their seamers. Ultimately, the team that adapts more effectively to the pitch and maintains discipline across all sessions will put itself in a stronger position to win the opening Test.
