Bangladesh delivered another clinical performance in Sylhet to register a resounding nine-wicket win over the Netherlands in the second T20I of the three-match series on Monday. The hosts, who had already asserted their dominance in the opening game with an eight-wicket win, carried that momentum forward to seal the series 2-0 with one match still to play.

    Netherlands’ batting collapse

After winning the toss, Bangladesh captain chose to bowl first, trusting his bowlers to make early inroads. That decision quickly paid off. The Netherlands innings never really found its rhythm, as Bangladesh’s attack combined accuracy with variations to apply constant pressure.

The visitors were rocked early when Teja Nidamanuru was dismissed for a golden duck. Despite a bright start from opener Vikramjit Singh, who struck four crisp boundaries in his 24 off 17 balls, the Dutch batting order faltered around him. Captain Scott Edwards managed only nine, while middle-order batters Shariz Ahmad (12) and Noah Croes (2) could not steady the innings.

At 78/6, the Netherlands appeared destined for a sub-100 total. However, Aryan Dutt produced a spirited counterattack, top-scoring with 30 off 24 balls, including three fours and a six. His effort, supported briefly by tailender Paul van Meekeren, helped push the score to 103 before the innings folded in 17.3 overs.

For Bangladesh, Nasum Ahmed was the standout, finishing with 3/21 in his four-over spell. His clever use of flight and angles troubled the batters, earning him the Player of the Match award. Taskin Ahmed (2/22) and Mustafizur Rahman (2/18) provided the pace and bite, while Mahedi Hasan and Tanzim Hasan Sakib chipped in with timely wickets.

    Bangladesh’s dominant chase

The modest target of 104 was always going to be within Bangladesh’s reach, and their top order ensured there were no hiccups along the way. Openers Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan got the chase off to a positive start, adding 49 runs for the first wicket in under six overs. Emon struck three fours and a six in his lively 23 off 21 balls before falling to Kyle Klein.

From there, Tanzid Hasan took charge of the chase with an innings full of authority. The left-hander struck boundaries with ease, displaying a blend of power and timing. His 54 off 40 balls included four fours and two sixes, and his ability to rotate the strike ensured Bangladesh never allowed the Dutch bowlers to settle. At the other end, Litton Das played the role of anchor, scoring an unbeaten 18 off 18 balls, guiding the side to victory in just 13.1 overs at 104/1.

The Netherlands bowlers struggled to contain the Bangladeshi batters, with Aryan Dutt’s economical 0/14 from four overs being the lone bright spot. The rest of the attack leaked runs under constant pressure.

With this win, Bangladesh not only sealed the series but also demonstrated their growing consistency in the shortest format. Their bowlers set the tone by dismantling the Netherlands batting lineup, while the batters chased with composure and intent.

The hosts now lead the three-match series 2-0, having won the first game by eight wickets and this one by nine. The third T20I will be played on Wednesday, September 3, at the same venue, where Bangladesh will look to complete a clean sweep, while the Netherlands will aim to salvage pride.
