The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally issued an official statement on the speculation surrounding the future of India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fielding coach T Dilip. After several reports and rumours about changes in India’s support staff, the BCCI made everything clear.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that both coaches have completed their contracts and will not continue with the India national cricket team. The board also clarified that they had sacked neither Ten Doeschate nor Dilip, but simply their contracts were ended. Amid this, Deep Dasgupta says India can field two teams after Zimbabwe T20I whitewash.
BCCI confirms no contract extension for Ryan ten Doeschate and T Dilip
On Tuesday, July 28, the BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that Ryan ten Doeschate’s two-year contract as the assistant coach ended on June 10, while T Dilip’s one-year extension finished on June 8. However, both coaches stayed with the Indian team until the end of the recent Ireland and England tours to ensure a smooth transition.
Saikia also made it clear that there is no plan to give either coach a contract extension, putting an end to all the rumours about their future with the India National Cricket Team.
Devajit Saikia was quoted as saying by PTI: “Assistant Ryan ten Doeschate’s two-year contract with the Indian men’s team ended on June 10. Fielding coach T. Dilip, who was given a one-year extension, also had his contract end on June 8.”
“They continued till the end of India’s tour of the United Kingdom. However, we are not giving any extension to either Ryan ten Doeschate or T. Dilip. There is no question of accepting resignation as the contract has ended.”
New fielding coach likely before Sri Lanka Test tour
The BCCI secretary also confirmed that the process of appointing a new fielding coach is already underway. The board is currently holding discussions with two to three shortlisted candidates and expects to complete the appointment very soon before the upcoming Sri Lanka Test tour.
Saikia added, “We are currently in talks with two to three names and expect to finalise the details within a day or two. India will have a new fielding coach for the tour of Sri Lanka.” Amid this, BCCI appoints Subhadeep Ghosh as India’s new fielding coach ahead of Sri Lanka.
Ryan ten Doeschate rejects BCCI offer but T Dilip shown the door
Well, Ryan ten Doeschate and T. Dilip are set to leave India’s support staff, but the reasons behind their exits are different. Ryan was expecting to become the fielding coach when he joined the Indian team after Gautam Gambhir wanted him in the coaching setup, but he was given a different role instead.
During India’s England tour, Ryan informed the BCCI that he wanted to leave. The board reportedly offered him a new contract until 2027, but he declined because he wanted to spend more time with his young family and avoid constant international travel.
During his time, India won the 2025 Asia Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy and defended the 2026 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, T. Dilip’s contract was not renewed after India’s fielding performances came under criticism, especially during the recent white-ball tour of Ireland and England.
