The cricketing world is gearing up for the Asia Cup 2025, which promises to bring high-octane action and unforgettable moments. With the tournament just around the corner, fans across the globe are bracing themselves for clashes between the continent’s biggest rivals. The fast-paced T20 format adds to the excitement, ensuring that every match could spring a surprise.

UAE coach Rajput backs his side to punch above their weight

Among the teams preparing for the tournament, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have quietly emerged as a side eager to prove a point. Head coach Lalchand Rajput believes his squad has both the skill and the self-belief to take down cricket’s giants.

Despite being grouped with India, Pakistan, and Oman — a daunting challenge on paper — Rajput insists the UAE should not be underestimated.

“The crucial phase is beginning for us. Victories against Test nations like Bangladesh have given us confidence. It’s not about overconfidence, but about belief. In T20 cricket, anything can happen — we can upset any team,” Rajput told Gulf News.

The former India cricketer emphasized the importance of fitness and mental strength in competing against stronger opponents.

“We are working hard on skills, fitness, and fielding. Playing against the best demands more than just talent; it needs commitment and focus. If we can beat a team like Bangladesh, there’s no reason why we can’t aim higher,” he added.

UAE to host Pakistan and Afghanistan in tri-series before Asia Cup

In the lead-up to the Asia Cup, the UAE will host Pakistan and Afghanistan in a seven-match T20I tri-series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium from August 29 to September 7. Acting as a key preparation platform, the series will allow the Emirati players to test themselves against two established cricketing nations before stepping into the continental tournament.

The action begins with Pakistan clashing against Afghanistan on August 29, while the hosts make their first appearance a day later against Pakistan. For coach Rajput, this tri-series is more than just a warm-up — it’s an opportunity to sharpen skills, build confidence, and prepare mentally for the daunting task of facing Asia’s strongest teams.
