India will go head-to-head against Australia in the second of the three-match ODI series. This article provides details about India’s Playing 11 vs Australia for the second match of the series.

India Playing XI vs Australia- 2nd ODI, India Tour of Australia 2025:

Openers: Shubman Gill (c), Rohit Sharma

India would like to make a strong comeback in the second ODI of their white ball tour of Australia to stand a chance of winning the series, courtesy of a win in the final game as well.

The Shubman Gill-led side found itself in a dilemma due to the number of interruptions during the opening ODI in Perth, which resulted in the visitors not being able to find the momentum after losing wickets each time the play resumed.

India was able to post a score of 136 runs on the board in 26 overs, which was trimmed down to 130 runs.

The home team chased down the target after a little stutter in the initial few overs, led by captain Mitchell Marsh’s calculated innings of 46 runs, who held one end and took the team over the line.

Marsh’s counterpart Gill, who hasn’t had a good start to his stint as the captain of India’s ODI team, would want to get things back on track by leading from the front in the next game.

Gill’s opening partner and former captain Rohit Sharma, whose innings was cut short by Josh Hazlewood, would also want to have a good outing with the bat at the top of the order and get the team off to a good start along with Gill.

Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul (wk), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar

Like the top order, the team’s middle order also found it tough to get going, more so because of some disciplined bowling upfront from the Australian fast bowling pair of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.

Experienced batter Virat Kohli, who was playing his first international match after March, got out in the same fashion as he did when the team toured Australia for a Test match series last year.

Kohli chased a ball outside off stump and gave a simple catch to the fielder while still on zero. The former captain would be itching to score in what could be his last series on Australian soil.

Other than Kohli, the onus will be on the new ODI vice-captain, Shreyas Iyer, to control the innings in the middle overs.

Amidst a below-par batting effort, the Men in Blue would be happy with the trio of KL Rahul, Axar Patel, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who counter-attacked after the match was reduced to 26 overs and India had close to ten overs to play.

The visitors would wish for them to keep up the good work in the second ODI as well, to increase their chances of posting an above-par total on the board while batting first.

Bowlers: Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj

The bowling arsenal of India comprises names like Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Mohammad Siraj, who will handle the team’s fast bowling department.

Among all three bowlers, Harshit Rana will be under a bit of pressure going into the second ODI, given his inconsistent performances in the few chances he has had at the international level.

As far as the spin bowling department is concerned, it will be taken care of by Washington Sundar and Axar Patel.

The Men in Blue might be tempted to bring in Kuldeep Yadav, who brings variety to the bowling attack, but in all likelihood, the spinner won’t get a chance due to team management’s approach of having depth in batting.
