The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is in a big problem in the middle of the T20 World Cup 2026. All the drama is around the India vs Pakistan Group A clash on February 15 in Colombo. The Pakistan government already directed the PCB to boycott the India match, but there isn’t unity within the board.

As reported by NDTV, the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the Interior Minister in the Pakistani government, wants to follow Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s order and boycott the India match at the T20 World Cup 2026 in Colombo.
But several PCB officials are “open to the idea” of playing the India match to avoid problems with the International Cricket Council (ICC). There is very little time left to take a decision over the India vs Pakistan clash on February 15. The PCB and the ICC have been holding secretive back-channel discussions for several days.

High-level meeting with ICC warns of consequences
ICC deputy chair Imran Khwaja, who represents Singapore on the board, is leading the talks. He has reportedly warned Pakistan about serious consequences if the team does not play the match. Imran Khwaja, Naqvi, Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam, and other PCB officials had an important meeting on Sunday, February 8, at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
In the meeting, the ICC again made it clear that PCB must convince its government to let the India vs Pakistan match happen. If they fail, the board could face big problems and penalties. After the meeting, Naqvi said that he will first talk to the prime minister before making any final announcement.
Boycott could cause major problems for PCB and ICC
This is a very sensitive matter because if Pakistan boycotts the India match, it will break the ICC’s Member Participation Agreement. Pakistan had signed this agreement before the tournament started, promising to play all scheduled matches.
The PCB is now trying to use the force majeure clause in the agreement. This clause allows a team to skip a match if the reason is beyond the team’s control. But the ICC has already written to Pakistan, explaining that this rule has strict conditions and it will not be easy for them to successfully use it.

If Pakistan remains firm on not playing India at the T20 World Cup 2026, it will create huge problems. The ICC and member boards will face big financial losses. India vs Pakistan matches are the most important games in the ICC calendar because millions of fans watch them and they bring a lot of revenue. A boycott of this match will be a big shock for the fans and stakeholders.
The ICC has reportedly made it clear to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that it cannot offer any extra compensation for not playing in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. However, the ICC has promised that Bangladesh will receive its full share of earnings as a member.
Earlier, there were reports that the BCB had asked for additional money and the hosting rights for a future ICC event. But the ICC rejected extra compensation and has made it clear that Bangladesh’s regular share of earnings from ICC events will be fully paid, but they will not get any bonus or extra benefits.
