In a high-octane Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash at the Dr. Y.S. Chasing a stiff target of 210, Delhi found themselves in deep trouble at 65/5, but an explosive knock from Ashutosh Sharma (66 off 31 balls) not out turned the game on its head. Delhi’s run chase started disastrously as they lost three wickets inside the first two overs. Jake Fraser-McGurk (1 off 2), Abishek Porel (0 off 2) and Sameer Rizvi (4 off 4) all fell cheaply, leaving DC reeling at 7/3. Faf du Plessis (29 off 18) and Axar Patel (22 off 11) attempted to stabilize the innings, but DC’s hopes seemed to fade at 65/5 in the seventh over. Enter Ashutosh, the Impact Player substitute, who produced an innings for the ages. However, the real game-changing moment came when Ashutosh and Vipraj Nigam (39 off 15 balls) unleashed a stunning counter-assault on Lucknow’s bowlers. The duo added a 55-run stand in just 19 balls, taking the game deep into the final overs. Ashutosh played one of the best finishing knocks in IPL history, smashing five fours and five sixes with a staggering strike rate of 212.90.
Despite losing Nigam and Starc in quick succession, Ashutosh kept his composure. With 18 runs needed off the last two overs, he took charge and dispatched Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi to the boundary at crucial moments. In the 19th over, Kuldeep Yadav (5 off 5) played a handy role, but he was run out attempting a tight second run, leaving DC at 192/9 with just Mohit Sharma for company.
With DC needing 10 runs off the final over, Ashutosh remained unfazed. He slammed a six over deep mid-wicket off Shahbaz Ahmed’s second delivery before calmly taking a single to bring the equation down to two runs off four balls. Mohit, facing his second ball under pressure, nudged a delivery into the off-side for a single, sealing a sensational one-wicket victory for Delhi with three balls to spare.
