AC Milan got off the mark in the Europa League in style as they cruised to a 4-0 win at Red Bull Salzburg thanks to a hat-trick from Alphadjo Cisse.

The teenager was the star of the show in Austria, becoming the youngest Italian to score a treble in a European competition, doing so at the age of 19 years and 358 days.

Goncalo Ramos was also on target for the Rossoneri, who had Filippo Terracciano sent off late on as they bounced back from defeat to Benfica in their league phase opener.

Their Serie A rivals Juventus made it two wins from two as they came from behind to beat Celta Vigo 2-1.

Nick Woltemade equalised for Juve after Hugo Alvarez had given the hosts the lead, the striker on loan from Newcastle United pouncing on poor defending to fire home his second goal for the club.

Juve completed the turnaround in stoppage time, Randal Kolo Muani heading home from Andrea Cambiaso’s superb cross.

There were mixed fortunes for the Premier League teams. Sunderland needed a stoppage-time winner to beat Portuguese second-tier side Torreense 2-1, while Bournemouth were more comfortable in seeing off Sturm Graz 3-0. Crystal Palace failed to make it a clean sweep for English sides, though, as they lost 3-2 at Lyon.

Scottish champions Celtic lost 4-1 at Benfica, and there was a similarly emphatic scoreline in Poland as Lech Poznan were beaten 4-0 at home by Bayer Leverkusen.

Hoffenheim’s miserable start to the season continued as they were beaten 3-2 at home by Besiktas, leaving the Bundesliga side still without a point in the competition. Marseille are also pointless after a 1-0 defeat at home to Olympiacos.

Their Ligue 1 rivals Rennes came from behind to beat OFI Crete 2-1, Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal scoring a 90th-minute winner. There was also late drama in Croatia as Dion Beljo’s 96th-minute penalty gave Dinamo Zagreb a 1-0 win over Anderlecht.

Elsewhere, Real Sociedad claimed their first point as they drew 1-1 with Union Saint-Gilloise.

Atalanta, meanwhile, scored three first-half goals to cruise to a 3-1 win over Pafos in a meeting of two sides who played Champions League football last term, while Brighton and Hove Albion were 4-0 winners over Kauno Zalgiris.

Mohamed Salah was on target as Trabzonspor won 4-2 at KuPS, but there was disappointment for Dutch giants Ajax, who suffered a 2-1 defeat at Hajduk Split.

Last season’s Europa League finalists Freiburg beat Jablonec 3-2, while Copenhagen produced one of the most impressive results of the opening round of Conference League games, defeating Braga 3-0.
