Mumbai University makes APAAR ID mandatory for 2026-27 exams; students may need it to download hall tickets

The University of Mumbai (MU) has made the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) ID mandatory for students appearing in examinations during the 2026-27 academic year. Under the university’s latest examination-related instructions, students will have to enter their APAAR ID details through the designated login window to download their hall tickets. The requirement means students who have not submitted or updated their APAAR details could face difficulty accessing their admit cards for the upcoming semester examinations. The university has therefore advised students to complete the necessary formalities well in advance rather than wait until the examination schedule is near.

APAAR ID linked to hall ticket download

According to the university’s latest notice, students appearing for examinations in the 2026-27 academic session will need to provide their APAAR ID information through the prescribed online facility. The move forms part of the University of Mumbai’s revised examination measures for the new academic year. With the ID now connected to the hall ticket process, students will need to ensure that their academic identity details are correctly updated before attempting to download their admit cards. The decision follows discussions among the Examination and Evaluation Board, Management Council and Academic Council of the university.

Students must reach exam centres 30 minutes early

The university has also introduced an examination-day instruction for the 2026-27 academic session. Students will be required to report to their respective examination centres at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start of the examination. The early reporting requirement is intended to ensure that students have sufficient time to complete entry and other examination-related formalities before the paper begins. Students are advised to factor this additional time into their travel plans, particularly when appearing at centres located away from their colleges or residences.

What is APAAR ID and why is it important?

APAAR stands for Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry. It is a unique 12-digit identification number designed to create a digital academic identity for students. The ID is intended to bring a student’s academic information together in a digital format. Depending on the records linked to it, it can help connect details such as educational qualifications, marks, academic credits and other achievements.APAAR is also linked to the broader digital education framework, including the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), which is designed to facilitate the digital recording and transfer of academic credits. For students, the system is aimed at making academic records easier to maintain and access across different stages of higher education.

Mumbai University sets up Aadhaar facilitation camp

Recognising that some students may face difficulties while creating or linking their APAAR IDs, the University of Mumbai has arranged an Aadhaar facilitation camp.As stated in the university circular issued on August 16, the facility has been organised in coordination with the Director, Board of Examinations and Evaluation (DBOEE).The camp is being held at the Alkesh Dinesh Mody Institute for Financial and Management Studies (ADMIFMS), University of Mumbai. It will be available on August 19 and 20, from 11 am to 4 pm.Students can approach the facility for assistance with APAAR ID creation, linking their Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) ID and resolving other Aadhaar-related issues.

Students advised to carry Aadhaar and required documents

The university has asked senior authorities of its affiliated colleges and departments to inform students about the facilitation camp and encourage those experiencing APAAR-related problems to use the facility.Students visiting the camp have been advised to carry their Aadhaar Card along with other relevant documents and details. Having the required information available can help officials verify student details and resolve issues related to creating or linking the APAAR ID.

What students should do before the exams

For students preparing to appear in the University of Mumbai’s 2026-27 examinations, the APAAR requirement adds another step to the pre-examination process.Students should first check whether they already have an APAAR ID and ensure that the details associated with it are accurate. Those who have not created one or are facing difficulties linking it with their ABC ID should complete the process at the earliest. They should also keep their examination login credentials and required academic documents ready before the hall ticket download window opens. With the APAAR ID now tied to access to hall tickets, leaving the process until the last moment could create avoidable problems. Students who resolve their documentation and identification issues beforehand are less likely to face disruption when the examination process begins. The university’s message is clear: APAAR formalities are no longer merely an administrative exercise for students appearing in the 2026-27 examinations. They have now become an important part of the examination process, making it essential for students to complete the requirement well before their papers.
