San Jose Sharks Will Smith isn’t worried about a contract extension
Eric Stephens: San Jose Sharks pending RFA forward Will Smith, who is eligible for a contract extension: “I’m not worried about it. Just control what I can control. Worry about playing hockey. Obviously I’m really happy for all my former teammates. Especially Mack. It’s great for the league. But for me, it just go out there and play hockey.”

Five potential waiver wire targets to watch
Steven Ellis of Daily Faceoff: Puck Pedia put out a waiver watch page, listing all the players that would require waivers if their NHL team wants to assign them to the minors. A look at five players who are “likely” to be put on waivers and who have a good chance of being claimed.
Matthew Poitras – Boston Bruins – Center – $850,000 – Has taken a step back the past couple of years but is still only 22. The Bruins have altered their bottom-six, and there may not be room for Poitras. A fresh start might do him good.
Justin Robidas – Carolina Hurricanes – Right Wing – $850,000 – The 23-year-old has produced wherever he’s played, but his size (5′ 8″) and defensive stability have held him back. He has enough skill that someone should select him.
Ethan Del Mastro – Chicago Blackhawks – Left-Handed Defenseman – $950,000 – Was inconsistent last season in the 19 NHL games he played. Some think he’s only a seven/eight defenseman. Someone might take a chance on the 6′ 4″ Dman. He can skate, but his defensive game needs work.
NHL Rumors: Fantilli, Edvinsson, Hellebuyck and the Devils
Fabian Lysell – Colorado Avalanche – Right Wing – $850,000 – The Avs offseason additions don’t leave a lot of room for the undersized forward. The odds of another former first-round pick not being able of crack the NHL are increasing. He might only turn out to be a nice minor league scoring addition. A team like the Vancouver Canucks could take a flyer on him.
David Rittich – New Jersey Devils – Goaltender – $1 million – Rittich will have to really outplay Nico Daws to steal the backup position. The 34-year-old has played 64 games in the past two years. Has been inconsistent, but has the experience.
