Will the Carolina Hurricanes look to move a goaltender?

Adam Proteau of The Hockey News: The Carolina Hurricanes claimed goaltender Brandon Bussi off waivers from the Florida Panthers back on October 5th, and he’s been on a roll ever since. Now that Pyotr Kochetkov is back healthy, the Hurricanes carrying three goalies.

Is it time for the Hurricanes to look at trading a goalie, mainly Frederik Andersen? Yes. Having the goalie depth is good, but they could use the roster depth on the blue line or up front. Health is always a concern when it comes to Andersen. His save percentage is well under .900, and his GAA is over 3.00. Andersen is in the final year of his contract at a $2.75 million cap hit.

Kochetkov has had his own injury issues and struggles at times, but he’s still only 26, and his numbers have been better than Andersen’s. He’s under contract for one more year at $2 million.

The Ottawa Senators are looking for a top-nine forward, and some potential options for them

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: The Ottawa Senators have struggled of late. If they can’t internally turn things around, GM Steve Staios needs to make a move. League executives said that the Senators are looking for a top-nine forward and a defenseman.

Centers Shane Pinto and Lars Eller are out with injuries.

It’s believed the Senators have called teams that might be selling – Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues and the Nashville Predators. But with so few sellers and lots of buyers, the asking prices are high.

They’ve checked in on Canucks pending UFA Kiefer Sherwood, who is also being looked at by a few other Eastern Conference teams. He only carries a $1.5 million cap hit and has received interest from the Boston Bruins, New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars and Philadelphia Flyers. The Canucks are looking for a first-round pick, and the Senators don’t have one in the draft this year.

NHL Rumors: Avalanche, Rangers, Canucks, and Flames

It doesn’t sound like the Canucks are interested in trading Conor Garland, whose six-year, $6 million per extension kicks in in July. His full NMC doesn’t kick in until July. He holds Travis Green in high regard.

The Senators have likely spoken with Flames GM Craig Conroy about Blake Coleman, who has a year left at $4.9 million.
