He was described as measuring 6 feet 2 inches in height and weighing 230 lbs., with brown hair and brown eyes, police said.
Krommidas was last seen wearing a camouflage print sweatshirt and gray sweatpants, they said, adding they believe he is in the Long Beach area.
The police later said that Krommidas’ vehicle was found near the Long Beach boardwalk and his clothing was discovered on the beach, Newsday reported.
A Democrat, Krommidas is seeking a seat in the Nassau County Legislature’s Fourth District this year, NBC affiliate WNBC reported.
Krommidas’ election primary is scheduled for June 24, with the general election later to be held on Nov. 4, according to The New York Post.
On Tuesday, April 22, just days before he was reported missing, Krommidas shared a post on his Facebook campaign page that he spoke at Nassau County Young Democrats’ monthly meeting.
“Thank you to the Nassau County Young Democrats for having me—always great to be with such a thoughtful, engaged group committed to making a difference in our community,” he said.
On Monday, April 28, Jay S. Jacobs, chairman of the Nassau County Democratic Committee, said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE that read, “We are heartbroken over the disappearance of Petros Krommidas. Petros is a bright, driven young man who has been a strong voice for Democratic values.”
“He is well respected by the community and represents the very best of our next generation of leaders,” the statement continued. “We are keeping Petros and his family in our prayers and remain hopeful for his safe return.”
