The release plans for Nitesh Tiwari‘s ‘Ramayana‘ took an unexpected turn on Friday, after producer Namit Malhotra announced that the film’s digital trailer launch has been postponed.Originally expected to launch on July 24, post its global debut at San Diego Comic-Con, Malhotra announced on his social media handles that the trailer would instead be unveiled globally at a ‘later date’. Sharing the update in a statement, Malhotra wrote, “Today is a very special moment for our Ramayana. My dream of taking Ramayana to the world is now a reality with our partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment. In light of the above, we will be launching our trailer globally at a later date.”While Malhotra did not reveal a revised release date for the trailer, his confirmation of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s role as the film’s global distributor has sparked widespread fan theories online. Many believe the studio could use ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ as the launch platform for the ‘Ramayana’ first trailer.‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, starring Tom Holland, is shaping up to be one of the biggest box office events of 2026. According to early trade projections by Sacnilk, the Marvel film is expected to open with an estimated Rs 50-60 crore gross on its first day in India, potentially challenging the nearly decade-long ‘Avengers: Endgame’ record for the biggest opening day by a Hollywood release in the country.If Sony were to attach the ‘Ramayana’ trailer to ‘Brand New Day’, it would instantly give it one of the biggest launches globally, with the film reportedly tracking a massive USD 500 million to USD 550 million worldwide opening weekend. Some early tracking models even estimate global debuts reaching the USD 700 million mark. This positions it as one of the largest Hollywood superhero openings of all time.This would also align with Malhotra’s stated ambition of presenting ‘Ramayana’ as a global cinematic event.
