A fresh report about Rohit Sharma’s fitness has sent shockwaves amid the ongoing three-match ODI series between the India National Cricket Team and the Afghanistan National Cricket Team.
The former Indian captain, who already retired from Test and T20I cricket, is reportedly dealing with a serious hamstring injury that could affect the final phase of his international career. Even, Jonty Rhodes said that Rohit Sharma is not the greatest looking athlete.

As reported by CricBlogger, Rohit Sharma’s hamstring injury could make it extremely difficult for him to play regularly in the coming month, and that will put his dream of playing in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe in serious jeopardy.
The report revealed that Rohit has suffered a 16-mm Grade 3 hamstring tear. This is considered the most severe type of hamstring injury because it involves a complete tear or rupture of the muscle or tendon and can seriously affect movement and performance.
A source was quoted as saying by CricBlogger, “A grade 3 hamstring tear is the most severe form of hamstring injury. It indicates a complete tear or rupture of the hamstring muscle or tendon, resulting in a significant loss of function.”
Rohit Sharma set for careful management plan
Such injuries usually need a long recovery period, at least three to six months. In some cases, surgery may also be required before a player can return to competitive cricket. It is also being said that Rohit’s injury will need very careful management.
He may have to balance rehabilitation, recovery, fitness work, and workload management before taking part in high-intensity games. Another major concern is that reaching 100 percent fitness may not always be possible for the right-handed opening batter.
Even if he returns to action, there could still be a chance of missing important matches if the hamstring problem flares up again. The only positive thing is that Rohit has managed this injury well over the years and that there is no immediate reason to panic.
“There won’t be any problem whatsoever,” a source close to Rohit said.

Interestingly, the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence has been declaring Rohit fit to play in the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan. However, it remains unclear whether he will now have to pick and choose matches depending on how his hamstring responds.
The hamstring issue is not new, as the Hitman has been dealing with this problem on and off since the 2017-18 season. During IPL 2026, Rohit Sharma who is set to overtake Rahul Dravid also missed a few matches because of the same injury.
There has been no official confirmation from the BCCI or Rohit regarding the same, but if the reports are true, then he will have to carefully manage his schedule and workload to keep his hopes of playing in the ICC World Cup 2027 alive.
