Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has warned against the expectations as the 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is all set to make his India debut. He was picked in India’s squads for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England as well as the Asian Games 2026.
As excitement continues to build around the teenager, the former BCCI president admitted that Vaibhav has extraordinary talent but called for patience as the teenager is set to begin his journey in the international arena after a remarkable IPL 2026 campaign.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi played fearless cricket throughout the IPL 2026 season and attacked every bowling attack with no mercy, and left them searching for answers. The teenage batter finished the season with an incredible 776 runs at an unbelievable strike rate of 237.30 and won the Orange Cap as the tournament’s highest run-scorer.

His performances for Rajasthan Royals were impossible to ignore, and the selectors rewarded him with his first India call-up. Now, he is on the verge of creating history. If he gets a chance to play, Vaibhav could become the youngest player ever to represent India in international cricket.
Sourav Ganguly urges patience with teenage star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
With so much attention already on the teenage batting sensation, Sourav Ganguly feels people should avoid putting unnecessary pressure on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The legendary batter believes Vaibhav’s fearless attitude has been one of his biggest strengths, but international cricket is a different challenge altogether, so he may need time to adjust to that environment.
Sourav Ganguly told PTI on the sidelines of an event in Mumbai, as quoted by Hindustan Times: “I think we should let him be; he’s just a 15-year-old, and I don’t think he’ll bother too much about pressure, and that’s what we get to see him do in the IPL. Obviously, playing for India is different, and he will be touring where the wickets will be a little different.”

Sourav Ganguly sends reality check to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Ganguly also pointed out that the upcoming tours will not be easy for the left-handed batter, as the conditions in Ireland and England are very different from India. Fast bowlers often get extra movement from the pitch, and the new ball can swing and bounce much more.
The former BCCI boss added, “It will seem there will be a bit more bounce and a bit more movement with the new ball, so the game is a bit different, but I think he’s got enormous talent, so just let him be; don’t expect the world from him straightaway. Just allow him to settle down because you know he’s got a lot of talent like many others in India.”
Well, before joining the senior Indian team, Vaibhav will first represent India A in the upcoming tri-series featuring Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A. This one-day tri-series will give the youngster another opportunity to gain valuable experience and prepare for the challenges ahead.
