Openers: Aiden Markram (c), Ryan Rickelton

South Africa will kick off their campaign in the fourth edition of the World Test Championship with the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan.

The visitors will be without their regular captain, Temba Bavuma, and will be led by Aiden Markram.

Africa have named a relatively young squad that does not have a great deal of experience when it comes to playing Test matches in Pakistan.

Having said that, the team would take confidence from their win against Australia in the World Test Championship final and put on a strong show with bat, ball, and in the field as they have the resources to do so.

The Proteas will open the batting with Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton and would hope for them to click and provide a solid platform for the middle-order batters to capitalize on.

South Africa’s captain for this series, Aiden Markram, will have to take the responsibility and bat long, being the captain and senior batter in the team.

Markram would look for a good amount of support from his opening partner, Ryan Rickelton, who would himself want to have a good outing as a batter in the opening game of the series.

Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Tristan Stubbs, David Bedingham, Dewald Brevis, Marco Jansen, Kyle Verreynne (wk), Wiaan Mulder

The opening pair will be followed by a middle order, which is a bit young in terms of experience in the longest format of the game, especially when it comes to batters who might bat at number three, four, and five

The likes of Tristan Stubbs and Dewald Brevis are still finding their feet at the Test level and would look to get a big score in the first match itself to get a little bit of pressure of their back

Due to the lack of experience, batters like David Bedingham and Marco Jansen will have a vital role to play in the South African batting lineup if the team wants to post a total of more than 350 runs on the board.

One of the biggest strengths that the Proteas have leading into the Test series against Pakistan is that the team has a deep batting lineup, which extends to number eleven, with players like Senuran Muthusamy, Kagiso Rabada capable of handling themselves.

Bowlers: Prenelan Subrayen, Senuran Muthusamy, Kagiso Rabada

The Proteas would bank on the spinners to have a good outing in the first match of the series, as conditions are expected to favour them in Lahore.

South Africa is expected to go into the match with at least two specialist spinners in the form of Prenelan Subrayen and Senuran Muthusamy, with Keshav Maharaj joining the squad for the second Test.

As far as the fast bowling department of the Proteas is concerned, it will see the return of Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen, both of whom haven’t played a Test since the final of the World Test Championship earlier this year.

Along with the duo, the team will also be able to avail the services of fast bowling all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, who has been in good form with the bat of late and can also contribute handsomely with the ball.
