Teri Hatcher Posts ‘No-Filter,’ Makeup-Free Selfie

Teri Hatcher has a simple message for anyone who may have doubts when it comes to showcasing their natural self. 

On Tuesday, Aug. 5, the 60-year-old Desperate Housewives alum posted several makeup-free Instagram photos of herself to let others know that “it’s okay to be real.”

Her cover photo was a four-picture collage of her “Walking at sunset in that magical golden hour any Oscar-winning DP [director of photography] would chase.” According to Hatcher, this made her wonder what the hype surrounding the lighting was about, and “what is the difference.”

“So, Here’s a no-filter shot of me facing the sun, and with it at my back,” the Tomorrow Never Dies actress wrote. “Every line…a story of real human effort,successes & flaws. Feel free to zoom in. Is one angle more forgiving? More ‘beautiful’?”

Instead of focusing on how people “frame beauty,” Hatcher shared her own perception of beauty. 

“I choose gratitude for the time gifted in every wrinkle,” she concluded. “I first put my naked face out there in 2010—everyone told me I was crazy but 15 years later, I’m still here, still saying it’s okay to be real.”

In addition to several sunset photos from her evening stroll, the Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman star shared a Google search result and articles from 2010 when she went “makeup free to prove no botox,” as well as a post with a headline that read, “Teri Hatcher Moves Forehead, Squints Eyes.”

The actress went viral in December 2019 after she shared two photos of herself in a bikini as a way of being “vulnerable.”

She was 55 years old at the time, and called the results of a then-recent 8-week F45 challenge “liberating,” so much so that she felt called to post her unedited images.

At the time, Hatcher told Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager on Today with Hoda and Jenna that she did the program “not to lose weight but to be healthy and feel better and to lift weights and get stronger.”

“That’s what I was trying to pay attention to,” the actress said. “And just be happier — be in a better mental place.”

“When I saw it, it wasn’t that I thought, ‘Oh, wow, look how great I look’ or anything,” she explained. “I just felt like I wanted to be vulnerable. I wanted to say to women, to everybody, you know, ‘Here’s who I am at 55. This is it. I’m not lying. I’m a strong woman. I’m a strong person.’ ”

In January 2020, following her 55th birthday, Hatcher spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about feeling confident while starring in a German fashion photoshoot.

The Tango & Cash actress admitted she had her doubts in the beginning: “There is that voice in my head that says, ‘You are a 55-year-old woman.. What am I doing?!’ ”

However, famed photographer Randall Slavin made her feel unstoppable. “He said to me, ‘You know, 55 is the new 55,’ ” Hatcher recalled him saying. “ ‘Women are still crushing it and feeling sexy.’ ”
