Fans were recently left devastated when the beloved matriarch of The Simpsons, Marge Simpson, was killed off in the show’s recent episode.
The character’s fate was revealed in a shock flashforward scene in the season 36 finale where her family were gathered around a gravestone with her name on it.
But after fans expressed their heartbreak – and outrage – over her death online, the show’s producer has delivered a plot twist: Marge lives!

In an interview with Variety, executive producer Matt Selman confirmed Marge is alive and well after all. It’s OK, we can all rest easy now the Simpsons family is all together.
He clarified “there is no canon” in the show, meaning with all the flashbacks and flashforwards over the years, you can’t take anything as official.
“Obviously since the The Simpsons future episodes are all speculative fantasies, they’re all different every time,” he explained.

“Marge will probably never be dead ever again. The only place Marge is dead is in one future episode that aired six weeks ago.”
Marge’s “death” was revealed in the episode Estranger Things in a flashforward scene of Homer and their kids Bart, Lisa and Maggie all seen standing around her grave.

“Marge Simpson: Beloved wife, mother, pork-chop seasoner” her tombstone read.
Marge even hilariously united with The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr in the afterlife.
The episode aired on May 18.

In recent days, fans expressed their sadness over the TV death.
After 36 seasons, one person on X (formerly Twitter) said the matriarch was “the glue that held the family together”.
Speaking of the fan response, Selman said: “I guess this speaks to the fact that people care about Marge.”
