Delhi Capitals successfully chased down a challenging target of 167 in Match 6 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, securing a thrilling seven-wicket victory with just one ball remaining against the UP Warriorz.

The foundation of their chase was laid by captain Meg Lanning, who played a masterclass knock of 69 off 49 balls, anchoring the innings after an aggressive start from Shafali Verma. Shafali’s 26 off 16 balls provided early momentum, but her dismissal in the seventh over opened the door for the Warriorz. Jemimah Rodrigues failed to make an impact, departing for a duck, increasing the pressure on the middle order. However, Annabel Sutherland (41 not out off 35) and Marizanne Kapp (29 not out off 17) absorbed the pressure in the final phase of the innings, steering the Capitals home with their composed stroke play. With 10 runs needed from the final over, the match hung in the balance, but Kapp’s experience came to the fore as she sealed the victory with a boundary off the penultimate delivery. The chase had its share of tense moments, particularly when Lanning was dismissed in the 15th over, leaving DC at 119/3 with 48 still required. However, the pair of Sutherland and Kapp displayed remarkable composure under pressure, pacing their innings brilliantly to keep the equation within reach.
The Warriorz bowlers struggled to deliver under pressure, with only Grace Harris (1/11) managing to maintain an economical spell. Deepti and Sophie Ecclestone created a few chances in the middle overs, but the lack of penetration in the death overs allowed DC to dictate terms. The fourth-wicket partnership between Sutherland and Kapp proved to be the defining factor, as they executed their strokes with precision and ensured the Capitals walked away with their second win of the tournament in style.
