Vaibhav Suryavanshi was picked by the Rajasthan Royals for a whopping INR 1.10 crores, with a base price of INR 30 lakhs. He became the youngest player ever to be selected by a team in the IPL. Then, at the age of 14, he made his debut against Lucknow SuperGiants and hit the first ball of his innings for a six. He became the youngest Indian ever to hit a six on debut in the IPL.
But that was not all; his best was yet to come as he smashed a record-breaking 35-ball hundred against the Gujarat Titans at Jaipur, which no one, not even the top cricket betting sites in India, saw coming. He broke his old teammate Yusuf Pathan’s record for the fastest hundred scored by an Indian (37 balls).
Suryavanshi also surpassed Manish Pandey’s 16-year-old record for the youngest Indian to score a century. Pandey scored a century when he was 19 years old, while Suryavanshi scored a century at just 14 years and 32 days. Former West Indies International Cricketer and IPL commentator Ian Bishop has words of praise and a piece of advice for Vaibhav Suryavanshi and after the match against Gujarat Titans, where he tore apart the quality bowling lineup of the Titans, Bishop said
“It’s unprecedented, 14 years old. This is new territory and the scrutiny on him when he plays the next game, and if he doesn’t score any runs, you know, there are going to be detractors out there and this kid is going to be tested.
“His parents are going to have to be so close to him, and hopefully. I am sure they are great parents and you have got to surround this kid with proper people for the next five years to ensure that he’s got so early in his career, there isn’t a drop.”
