Shreyas Iyer could not deliver with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2025 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Chasing 191 runs, Punjab Kings were in a spot of bother after neither of their openers managed to convert their starts into big scores.
Priyansh Arya showed promise but did not last long. He was dismissed in the 5th over by Josh Hazlewood. The left-handed batsman departed after scoring 24 runs off 19 balls.

Punjab Kings kept losing wickets regularly
Prabhsimran Singh did not look at his best either. He lost his wicket in the 9th over while trying to play a big shot against Krunal Pandya. The right-handed batsman departed for 26 runs off 22 balls.
With the team reeling at 72/2, the onus was on captain Shreyas Iyer to lead the charge with the bat. Shreyas was coming into this game on the back of a stunning knock against Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier.
His unbeaten 87-run knock had helped Punjab Kings chase down 204 runs against the five-time IPL champions.

Shreyas falls cheaply
However, Shreyas failed to lead his team from the front in the final. He was out for just 1 run off 2 balls. West Indies allrounder Romario Shepherd sent back the Punjab Kings skipper in the 10th over to reduce Punjab to 79/3.
As Shreyas Iyer was dismissed, Virat Kohli’s reaction said it all. The former RCB skipper looked fired up and celebrated the dismissal in a wild fashion, implying the importance of the wicket.

Coming to the match, Punjab Kings were on 90/3 in the 12th over at the time of writing this report. Josh Inglis and Nehal Wadhera were batting in the middle for Punjab. Earlier in the match, Royal Challengers Bengaluru finished their innings with a challenging total of 190/9 in the allotted 20 overs after being asked to bat first.
