Gino Reda: “What about the Vancouver contracts? They’re dead last in the league. They’ve already made it pretty clear they’re open for business. Could we see a seismic shift in Vancouver?”

Darren Dreger: “Well, we could. It’s possible. I’ve been one who’s talked about the possibility of Elias Pettersson being in play on and off for the last several weeks. So let’s update that story. And what I can tell you, Gino, is that there was interest renewed just prior to the February 4 Olympic break. Trade discussions involving Elias Pettersson, and I think it’s fair to assume that those conversations drifted over the course of the Olympic break.
So that brings us to here and now. And it’s important to note here that Pettersson does possess a no-move clause. I know that the Vancouver Canucks have spoken to his representative JP Barry, but there hasn’t been a formal offer made, a trade presentation on Elias Pettersson that would be worthwhile enough for the Vancouver Canucks to go to Barry to say, ‘all right, is Pettersson willing to waive?’ But it’s a developing story, and it’s one that we’re going to have to continue to follow.
There has been a considerable amount of interest around Evander Kane. Again, another pending unrestricted free agent. So I would expect the Vancouver Canucks to be busy, but it could be more on the lesser side of moving out pending unrestricted free agents if they can’t get a suitable return for Pettersson.”
NHLRumors.com Note: The Vancouver Canucks have already made two significant moves. One trading Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild. The second was trading Kiefer Sherwood to the San Jose Sharks. Now, this rebuild in Vancouver has been underway over the last couple of years, with Bo Horvat and J.T. Miller being moved out.
NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings, and the Nashville Predators
The Canucks have other players besides Elias Pettersson, who has been the subject of trade talks in Vancouver for the last couple of seasons. Could he move to the Los Angeles Kings, Detroit Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes, or another team that needs a center?
Outside of him, the Canucks have UFAs in Evander Kane, Teddy Blueger, and David Kampf. Not to mention guys that trade protection that could be available in Conor Garland, Jake DeBrusk, and Tyler Myers.
