England delivered an outstanding performance against New Zealand in their 27th match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, cruising to an 8-wicket win with 124 balls to spare. Amy Jones played a stellar knock of 86* off 92 balls, leading her team to a comfortable chase of 169.

England’s bowlers had earlier restricted New Zealand to just 168, with Linsey Smith and Nat Sciver-Brunt claiming key wickets. The victory not only handed England 2 points but also solidified their position in the tournament as they continue their push for a top spot. The match, held at Visakhapatnam on October 26, 2025, was a comprehensive display of all-around cricket by the English side, particularly in the chase where they comfortably surpassed the target.

New Zealand’s struggles with the bat fail to post a competitive total

New Zealand’s batting faltered as they could only manage a total of 168 runs in their 50 overs. Despite a solid start by Georgia Plimmer (43) and contributions from Amelia Kerr (35), New Zealand never quite managed to accelerate, falling short of a competitive total. The middle order crumbled under pressure, with only Sophie Devine (23) and Maddy Green (18) showing brief resistance. England’s bowlers, led by Smith and Sciver-Brunt, kept the pressure on, ensuring that New Zealand never reached any substantial partnerships. Smith was particularly impressive, taking 3 wickets for 30 runs, while Sciver-Brunt claimed 2 wickets for 31. New Zealand’s total was never enough to challenge the English batting line-up, who made light work of the chase.

Amy Jones steers England to clinical victory with an unbeaten knock

Jones’ match-winning 86* anchored England’s chase, showcasing a blend of elegance and power. Her innings was the perfect response to New Zealand’s modest total, and she led from the front, ensuring England remained on track throughout the chase. Tammy Beaumont (40) and Heather Knight (33) also made crucial contributions, with both players playing key roles in building partnerships that put New Zealand under pressure. Jones’s strike rate of 93.47 helped accelerate the chase, and despite a few early hiccups with the bat, England never seemed in danger of losing. After Beaumont’s dismissal, Jones and Knight saw England to the target with minimal fuss, taking just 29.2 overs to reach 172/2. Jones’ composed innings was awarded the Player of the Match, and her performance was a key factor in England’s comprehensive 8-wicket victory.
