The young Australian opener, Phoebe Litchfield, delivered a sensational performance in the high-stakes Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 semi-final against India at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. She slammed a magnificent century, cementing her status as one of Australia’s emerging batting stars. This knock was pivotal after Australia, who won the toss and elected to bat first, lost captain Alyssa Healy early on, necessitating a rebuilding partnership. Litchfield’s century was a blend of aggression and timing, achieving a remarkable milestone in a knockout fixture.

Phoebe Litchfield’s record breaking knock in the Women’s World Cup 2025 knockout against India

Litchfield scored a brilliant century in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 semi-final against India, showcasing her ability to perform under immense pressure. This achievement earned her the distinction of scoring the fastest ton in a World Cup knockout match, reaching the three-figure mark in just 77 balls. The left-handed batter’s innings was characterized by aggressive stroke play, which included a remarkable 18 fours and one six.

This century was Litchfield’s third WODI ton overall in her career, and her maiden hundred in the Women’s World Cup edition. The 22-year-old opener achieved this milestone with a fitting lofted drive, highlighting her confidence and positive intent from the very start of her innings. She formed a crucial century stand with Ellyse Perry to stabilize the Australian innings after the early dismissal of captain Healy.

Litchfield’s performance in the semi-final placed her in an elite category among Australian batters in the current tournament. She became the fourth Australian to register a three-digit score in the ongoing World Cup edition, joining the established names of Ashleigh Gardner, Healy and Beth Mooney.

Notably, this was Litchfield’s second WODI hundred against India, with both centuries against the Women in Blue coming in Mumbai; her first ton against India was scored in 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium. Across her career, the Australian batter has now played 36 WODIs, where she has amassed past 1,200 runs at an impressive average of over 42. Her complete WODI tally includes her three centuries and eight half-centuries. The aggressive nature of her semi-final knock was evident, with 17 of her fours coming via shots lifted over the off side.

Was only a few years ago Phoebe Litchfield had a sense of impostor syndrome coming into the Australian team as a teenager.

That feeling should be well and truly gone now. Sensational knock in a World Cup semi final. #CWC25 https://t.co/xh3y6PJwNX

Litchfield powers Australia to strong position against India

Australia Women are in a commanding position in the 2nd semi-final of the Women’s World Cup against India at DY Patil Stadium. After opting to bat, Australia has posted 187/2 in 28.4 overs, thanks to a brilliant 119 from Phoebe Litchfield, who has been in devastating form, striking at 127.95. Ellyse Perry is providing valuable support with 46 not out, as Australia looks set to put up a massive total. India, though, has fought back with timely wickets from Kranti Gaud and Amanjot Kaur, but Australia’s top order remains unshaken. With Beth Mooney still at the crease and Australia having a deep batting line-up, the task for India seems daunting as they head into the latter half of the innings.
