The 23-year-old India National Cricket Team left-handed opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has created history with his performances against the England National Cricket Team in Test cricket.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s consistent performances against the Three Lions have helped him join the likes of Sir Don Bradman, Brian Lara, and Rahul Dravid in a legendary list.

Yashasvi Jaiswal hits a brilliant half-century

India National Cricket Team lost the 14th consecutive toss in international cricket and were invited to bat first in the match on a tricky surface at Old Trafford in Manchester.

The English pacers got good help from the surface initially as the ball was seaming around, but KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal batted very well in that phase and didn’t get out.

Rahul initially did the heavy lifting in the partnership and scored more runs, but Jaiswal was quick to catch up. Together, they added 94 runs off 181 balls before KL Rahul got out.

Meanwhile, Jaiswal dropped his aggressive approach and batted more cautiously in the innings. He eventually got out in the 41st over and finished his innings with a score of 58 runs off 107 balls, with seven fours and one six.

Spinner Liam Dawson bowled a good length delivery that pitched short of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s defence, and the ball took the outside edge before going into the hands of Harry Brook at first slip.

Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes the second fastest Indian to hit 1000 runs against England

Jaiswal’s performance in the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 helped him complete 1000 runs against England in Test cricket history. He became the 20th Indian to achieve this milestone.

He reached the landmark in just 16 innings, joining the likes of Viv Richards, Don Bradman, and others in the list of batters to hit the fastest 1000 Test runs against the Three Lions. Jaiswal is the joint-second-fastest Indian to achieve the feat alongside Mohammad Azharuddin.

Dawson deserves his call-up based on his performances – Michael Atherton

Speaking of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal off Liam Dawson, Ian Ward hailed the England spinner for getting a wicket on the 7th ball in his comeback game.

“That is a moment and wicket that Liam Dawson had almost given up on. Not so long ago, he said that Test match cricket was not on his radar,” former England Test player Ian Ward added.

“(He) was absolutely happy with what he was doing for Hampshire in franchise cricket, but that injury to Shoaib Bashir has given him another opportunity in Test match cricket — and he’s started extremely well, a wicket with his seventh ball back.”

Meanwhile, former England skipper Michael Atherton said that Liam Dawson deserved the England call-up. He said:

“Dawson deserves his call-up based on his performances and numbers in the domestic game. He adds some batting depth and has lots of wisdom and knowledge with his left-arm spin.”
