Cheers actor George Wendt‘s cause of death has been revealed, more than two weeks after he died aged 76.
According to a death certificate obtained by TMZ, the star died from cardiac arrest.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health document listed congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, and hypertension all as underlying causes.

End-stage renal disease (kidney failure) and hyperlipidemia were contributing factors.
The actor was cremated May 28, per TMZ.
Wendt’s family previously confirmed he peacefully in his sleep at home on May 20.
Wendt was best known for his role as Norm Peterson in the ’80s sitcom Cheers.
He was a main cast member for the show’s 11-season run and reprised his character in the spin-off series The Tortellis and Frasier.

A rep for Wendt announced his death in a statement on May 21 (local time).
“George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him,” they said of the actor.
“He will be missed forever. The family has requested privacy during this time.”

Many have since paid tribute to the late sitcom star.
Wendt’s Cheers co-star Ted Danson said he was “devastated to hear that Georgie is no longer with us” in a statement to the New York Post.

In her own statement, their co-star Rhea Perlman said it was “impossible not to like him.”
“George Wendt was the sweetest, kindest man I ever met,” she said her US outlets.
The actress said she will “miss him more than words can say”.
Wendt’s nephew, actor Jason Sudeikis, remembered him as an “amazing guy”.

The Ted Lasso actor said during a panel his late uncle was “as fun and kind and as warm as any character he played on television or in films.”
Sudeikis later said, “we miss him greatly, and I love him dearly.”
