    NEED TO KNOW

    • Diane Keaton’s L.A. home that inspired her 2017 book, The House that Pinterest Built, is up for sale for $27 million
    • Keaton, who died on Oct. 11 at age 79, extensively renovated the property and turned it into her “dream” industrial-chic house
    • The property was previously listed for sale for $29 million in March 2025, but was taken off the market in September

Diane Keaton’s most famous and personal home has hit the market for $27 million, almost two months after her death.

The Family Stone star, who died on Oct. 11 at age 79, spent eight years extensively renovating her industrial-style Los Angeles abode and transforming it into her “dream home.” She later wrote a book about her architectural masterpiece, called The House that Pinterest Built, which was published in 2017.

Before her death, the serial renovator listed the five-bedroom, eight-bathroom property for $29 million in March 2025. The news came as a surprise to many after she previously said she wanted to live there permanently. Following a price cut in May, the home was taken off the market four months later in September.

Andrew Gulyas of Destination Home, Inc. holds the current listing.

Keaton purchased the property for $4.7 million in 2011, according to public records. In her book, she wrote that the inspiration behind her design stemmed from the children’s fable, The Three Little Pigs.

She explained how her mother would read her the story when she was young, and the lesson she learned from it left a lasting impression on her. As the third pig’s indestructible home “was made of bricks,” she wrote in the book, “I knew I was going to live in a brick house when I grew up.”

Per the listing, the 9,200-square-foot home’s exterior is “adorned with thousands of hand-selected vintage Chicago bricks,” giving it a unique look even before entering the home.

In a 2017 interview with Wine Spectator, Keaton said the converted industrial building, located in L.A.’s Sullivan Canyon, was her “dream home.”

She also shared, “My favorite room in my home is that damn kitchen,” referring to the chic space equipped with wood-beamed vaulted ceilings and statement light fixtures.

While Keaton held the reins for the design process, she worked with architect David Takacs and designers Stephen Shadley, Cynthia Carlson and Toben Windahl on the project, per the outlet.

At the time, she lived at the property with her daughter Dexter, now 29, and son Duke, now 25.

In October, a friend of the Oscar-winning actress told PEOPLE that Keaton’s decision to put her home up for sale earlier this year was a result of her declining health.

“She declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her,” the source told PEOPLE exclusively. “It was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit.”

The insider added, “In her final months, she was surrounded only by her closest family, who chose to keep things very private. Even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening.”
