    Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 4: Mirabai Chanu completes golden hat-trick as India adds 3 more medals in Glasgow
    INDIA AT COMMONWEALTH GAMES 2026

    India enjoyed its most successful day so far at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Sunday, collecting one gold and two silver medals to take its overall tally to four medals, while boxers continued their impressive run and the men’s swimming relay team reached another Commonwealth final.Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu headlined India’s Day 4 performances by winning her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal, while Rishikanta Singh and Raja Muthupandi added silver medals in weightlifting. Elsewhere, Jadumani Singh booked his place in the boxing quarter-finals with a commanding victory over Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman, Preeti Pawar advanced with a stoppage win, and the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay team qualified for and competed in the final.

    Mirabai Chanu creates history with third straight Commonwealth Games gold

    Saikhom Mirabai Chanu once again underlined her status as one of India’s greatest weightlifters by winning the women’s 48kg gold medal.The Tokyo Olympic silver medallist overcame an unsuccessful opening attempt before producing another dominant performance, finishing with a combined lift of 190kg. She set a new Commonwealth Games record of 85kg in the snatch before lifting 105kg in the clean and jerk to comfortably secure the title.The victory completed a remarkable hat-trick of Commonwealth Games gold medals after her triumphs in Gold Coast in 2018 and Birmingham in 2022. It also took her overall Commonwealth Games medal tally to four.

    Rishikanta Singh claims silver after equalling Games record

    Rishikanta Singh Chanambam delivered an outstanding performance to secure silver in the men’s 60kg event.The 28-year-old lifter from Manipur successfully cleared 116kg, 119kg and 121kg in the snatch, with his best effort equalling the Commonwealth Games record.He then managed 143kg in the clean and jerk but narrowly missed attempts at 148kg and 151kg, finishing with a total lift of 264kg.Malaysia’s Muhammad Anik bin Kasdan won gold with a Games-record total of 273kg, while Kenya’s Joshua Amunga Buoya claimed bronze after lifting 260kg.

    Raja Muthupandi completes India’s weightlifting medal haul

    Raja Muthupandi ensured India finished the day with three weightlifting medals by taking silver in the men’s 65kg category.The Tamil Nadu lifter recorded 126kg in the snatch before adding 160kg in the clean and jerk to finish with a combined total of 286kg.Malaysia’s Muhamad Aznil Bin Bidin captured gold after setting a Commonwealth Games record total of 299kg, while Papua New Guinea’s Morea Baru secured bronze with 282kg.The silver capped a remarkable comeback for Muthupandi, who returned to the Commonwealth Games podium eight years after finishing sixth on his debut at Gold Coast in 2018 following an injury-disrupted spell that also saw him miss Birmingham 2022.

    Boxers continue strong campaign

    India enjoyed another productive day inside the boxing ring.Jadumani Singh Mandengbam defeated Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the men’s 55kg Round of 16 to book his place in the quarter-finals.After a closely contested opening round, the Manipur boxer gradually took control of the contest, scoring a knockdown in the second round before sealing victory on all five judges’ scorecards. He will next face England’s Ellis Trowbridge for a place in the medal rounds.In the women’s 54kg Round of 16, Preeti Pawar produced a dominant display to defeat Malawi’s Deborah Mtenje by referee stops contest (RSC), advancing comfortably to the quarter-finals.India also suffered one boxing setback as Aditya Pratap Yadav narrowly lost to Uganda’s Nuhu Batte in the men’s 65kg Round of 16 by a 3-2 split decision.

    Relay team reaches swimming final

    India’s men’s 4x200m freestyle relay quartet of Srihari Nataraj, Aryan Nehra, Aneesh Gowda and Dhakshan Shashikumar successfully qualified for the final after finishing third in Heat 2.The Indian team clocked 7:39.48 to finish behind Australia and England while holding off Jersey to secure progression. They advanced as the sixth-fastest team overall from the combined heats.Later in the evening, the same quartet returned for the medal race and finished sixth in the Commonwealth Games final.

    Mixed fortunes in bowls and gymnastics

    India endured a difficult day in lawn bowls.Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh first lost 3-0 to Namibia in a women’s pairs sectional play tiebreak before suffering another defeat against England, ending their campaign in the event.In the men’s singles, Putul Sonowal lost his sectional play match against Malta’s Shaun James Parnis.Artistic gymnast Tapan Mohanty finished 15th in the men’s all-around final.India’s women’s 3×3 wheelchair basketball team also suffered defeat, losing 21-4 to Scotland in Pool B.Weightlifting

    • Mirabai Chanu won gold in the women’s 48kg event.
    • Rishikanta Singh won silver in the men’s 60kg event.
    • Raja Muthupandi won silver in the men’s 65kg event.

    Boxing

    • Jadumani Singh defeated Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman 5-0 (men’s 55kg Round of 16).
