The Chris Johnston Show: Chris Johnston wonders if Cutter Gauthier‘s $13.5 million contract extension will offer a path for Adam Fantilli‘s next contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Julian McKenzie: “CJ, I know we mentioned Fantilli just now. Is there any other added insight you’d like to add to that situation, and, and how close could a resolution be had between both sides?
Johnston: “Well, I do wonder if the, you know, Cutter Gauthier getting his deal done and settling at 13 and a half million with the Ducks might now offer a path forward because, you know, earlier in the week for sure the Fantilli’s camp was, was asking for $15 million, which is the level that Connor Bedard got in his most recent contract.
You know, the, the Blue Jackets naturally were a few million dollars a year under that on their offer, and so maybe somewhere in the middle of those two things, which happens to be around where Cutter Gauthier has, you know, settled with the Ducks, you know, might be a path forward.
Are the Columbus Blue Jackets creating more problems?
But, you know, it’s been a slow grind of a negotiation, and, you know, the feeling is, you know, it’s, it’s, it gets real even for him. You know, the same way he’s on a training camp. You know, this year’s camp is shorter to remind everyone. So even a couple days missed is, it’s not just a couple days. It’s, these are important days to get ready for the season, and so, you know, it had been slogging along.
And, you know, on Tuesday night we got the, the Gauthier deal. We’ll see if maybe that, that offers a path forward. But, you know, all these all these players are, you know, Fantilli’s actually achieved a lot more in his career than some of the guys we mentioned signing long-term deals. But, you know, he’s, he’s in the camp pushing for, you know, the, the big money, and I think he’s, he’s going to get it. It’s just a question where exactly they land.
