Virat Kohli’s comeback game in Ranji Trophy ends with Delhi’s emphatic win over Railways

Virat Kohli made his much-awaited return to domestic cricket in the Ranji Trophy, but it was Delhi‘s all-around performance that took center stage as they secured a comprehensive victory over Railways. Despite Kohli’s modest contribution with the bat, the team’s bowlers and middle-order batters ensured a dominant win.

Railways’ struggle in the first innings

Railways were dismissed for just 241 runs in their first innings, with Upendra Yadav being the top scorer for them with 95 runs. Other notable contributions came from Karn Sharma, who also smashed a fifty. Delhi’s bowlers, particularly Siddhant Sharma and Navdeep Saini, made regular breakthroughs. Siddhant claimed 2 wickets, while Saini took 3 key wickets as well. Railways’ innings were curtailed in 67.4 overs, leaving them with a modest total.

Delhi’s dominance in their first innings

In reply, Delhi posted a commanding total of 374 runs, gaining a crucial first-innings lead of 133 runs. Captain Ayush Badoni played a solid knock of 99 runs, and Sumit Mathur contributed with 86 runs. Kohli, on his return to competitive cricket, was dismissed for just 6 runs. Himanshu Sangwan and Kunal Yadav picked up key wickets for Railways, with Sangwan claiming 4 scalps.

Railways’ second innings collapse leads to Delhi’s big win

Chasing a steep target, Railways’ second innings fell apart under pressure. The team was bowled out for just 114 runs in 30.5 overs. Shivam Sharma led the charge for Delhi, taking a brilliant five-wicket haul. Delhi’s bowlers, including Saini, Badoni, and Siddhant, also played vital roles in dismissing Railways’ batters cheaply, giving Delhi a comfortable victory by an innings and 19 runs.

While Kohli’s return to domestic cricket did not yield a significant knock, his team’s dominant all-round performance ensured a commanding win.
