Everton’s recent progress under David Moyes was checked this afternoon as Bournemouth won 2-0 in the final FA Cup tie to be played at Goodison Park.

The Toffees, who move to their new stadium at Bramley Dock for the start of next season, had won three of their four games since Moyes’ return but they were no match for Andoni Iraola’s men.

Iraola, who was yesterday named Premier League Manager of the Month for January, rested a couple of key players but Antone Semenyo retained his place and it was he who was instrumental in their opener.

Having been the victim of a poor challenge from James Tarkowski, Semenyo stepped up to fire the resulting penalty past Jordan Pickford after 23 minutes.

And Tarkowski was also at fault for the Cherries’ second, his slack pass enabling Marcus Tavernier to take possession of the ball in a dangerous area. Tavernier’s shot was blocked but Daniel Jebbison bundled the ball in at the second attempt.

Debutant Carlos Alcaraz hit a post for Everton but they could find no way back.

    Saints stumble again

Burnley continued their remarkable defensive record with a 1-0 win at Southampton in what could be classed a minor shock.

Scott Parker’s side, who came into this game on the back of nine consecutive clean sheets in the Championship, won it thanks to new signing Marcus Edwards’ 77th-minute goal.

Saints’ fellow Premier League strugglers Ipswich fared much better, winning 4-1 at Coventry City.

Summer signing Jack Clarke, who has struggled to make an impact with the Tractor Boys following his move from Sunderland, netted twice after Joel Latibeaudiere had cancelled out George Hirst’s early penalty.

    Jaden Philogene netted Ipswich’s fourth.

Muniz at the double for Fulham

Rodrigo Muniz scored twice as Fulham won 2-1 at Wigan, for whom Jonny Smith was on target.

The games between Stoke and Cardiff and Preston and Wycombe both went to extra time.

Stoke had trailed 2-0 only to hit back to lead 3-2. Rubin Colwill made it 3-3 with his second of the game.

Preston and Wycombe was goalless after 90 minutes.

    Azeez downs Leeds

In the day’s early FA Cup games, Manchester City hit back to win 2-1 at Leyton Orient while Millwall secured a surprise 2-0 win at Leeds courtesy of two goals from Femi Azeez.

Visiting goalkeeper Liam Roberts prevented Leeds from a potential way back into the game by saving Pascal Struijk’s penalty.
