Canadian PM Mark Carney Warns of ‘Financial Coercion’ at WEF 2026: Sparks Rush to Offshore Crypto Treasuries

For most of his career, Mark Carney was the polished face of global cooperation, but on Tuesday at WEF 2026, that tone vanished.

Less than a year into his term as Canada’s prime minister, Carney delivered a blunt assessment of global power politics: “the strong do what they can, and the weak suffer what they must.” The speech received a standing ovation, as many perceived it as a few steps towards a mix of nationalism and globalism.

As one Canadian user on X put it, “faith and obedience to the Maple Emperor. Anything less is treason.”

The upshot of Carney’s speech is that the old world order is not coming back and nostalgia is not a strategy.

It’s a sentiment that even President Donald Trump – who’s slated to speak at 9:15 EST in Davos- could get behind, but coming from the Canadian PM was unexpected. So what is this “new world order” and how can you profit?

Speaking at the World Economic Forum, Carney warned that for globalism to survive, new alliances and social pacts had to be made.

“Middle powers must act together because if you are not at the table, you are on the menu. Great powers can afford to go it alone.” -Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada

He added, in a world of great power rivalry, the countries in between need to create a third path with impact. Maybe Trump is thinking America has no choice but to regime change Ottawa?

Jokes aside, without naming Trump, Carney made clear who he believes is accelerating the breakdown, accusing great powers of weaponizing tariffs, finance, and supply chains. Greenland, trade threats, and economic coercion hung unspoken in the room.

For decades, countries like Canada prospered under what we called the rules-based international order. They joined institutions, praised international principles, and benefited from predictability. And because of that, Canada could pursue values-based foreign policies under its protection.

American hegemony in particular helped provide public goods, open sea lanes, a stable financial system, collective security, and support for frameworks for resolving disputes. Yet this bargain no longer works.

Evidence of this system’s collapse is that Trump took away the landslide victory for Canadian conservatives by telling the Canadians every day for about two months before their election that he was going to annex them as the 51st state.

Unsurprisingly, the Canadians then voted in the Liberal Carney instead as the anti-Trump candidate.

Can Anyone Explain Why America Is So Obsessed With This Frozen Eskimo Land?

    (Source: AP)

Does Trump want Greenland because it looks big on a map? Or does he want to secure a lasting legacy for himself before he crumbles into dust?

The real reason is that this is the second region on earth with the highest amount of rare earths, behind China. US Naval ships will also be able to control Arctic traffic routes to and from East Coast ports

But does any of this warrant war? America can use these lines for literally any country they want to take.

In the wake of WEF 2026, stocks and crypto are down and gold and silver are hitting new ATHs. Crypto treasuries like Strategy are also weathering the storm.

The gold/silver ratio finally passed below 50:1 and precious metals are proving to be the only asset to do well during a global crisis. Keep your eye on Trump’s speech today at 9:15 EST; markets might not be done dumping.
