
Canucks ask the Maple Leafs for permission to speak with Shane Doan
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: Sources have said that the Vancouver Canucks have asked the Toronto Maple Leafs for permission to speak with special advisor to the GM, Shane Doan. It’s not known what position the Canucks are thinking with Doan.
Iain MacIntyre: “Re @FriedgeHNIC report Canucks have asked Leafs permission to speak to special advisor Shane Doan, Jim Rutherford has left open possibility he could leave as president soon after hiring new GM. Canucks may be looking beyond GM role as they interview candidates.”
Two of the finalists for the Maple Leafs GM positions are…
Frank Seravalli: Sources say two candidates who are finalists for the Toronto Maple Leafs GM position are Boston Bruins assistant GM Evan Gold, and New York Rangers assistant GM Ryan Martin. There is likely a third, or more, candidate who will have a second in-person interview this week.

Chris Pronger didn’t interview for the Maple Leafs GM position
First Up: Chris Pronger, when asked about his speculation involving the Toronto Maple Leafs and a potential position within management.

Host: “There are a lot of Toronto Maple Leaf fans, Chris, listen to this show and believe you have earned a look as potentially the next general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. There’s a lot of rumors going on about your involvement with interviews and such.”
Pronger: “There’s a lot of rumors.”
Host: “What, what can you tell us that’s going on with this?”
Pronger: “A lot of rumors.”
Host: “Can you give us a break ing new?”
Pronger: “A lot of rumors. Yeah, there’s a lot of rumors out there.
No, I’m, I’m in the media like you guys. I’m interested in seeing how this all plays out too. You know, there’s some vicious rumors out there that said I interviewed for the GM job. I did not interview for that role.”
Host: “Okay, put that to bed then. Was that something you wanted to do and weren’t able to do?”

Pronger: “Not necessarily. You know, I think I’m excited with this next chapter. And you know, as I’ve said numerous times, I’m open to having a conversation and seeing what an opportunity might look like. You know, whether it’s a fit for me, whether it’s fit for for the the other side, and sometimes it is, sometimes it isn’t, sometimes the timing’s not right, and sometimes the opportunity doesn’t fit what you’re looking for at any given time.”
