India National Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir has replied to MS Dhoni’s viral and heart-melting post about him and the T20 World Cup 2026 champions on Instagram.
On Sunday, March 8, MS Dhoni walked onto the field along with Rohit Sharma with the T20 World Cup trophy in his hands. As soon as the two former captains appeared, the stadium erupted with loud cheers from thousands of fans at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Both Rohit and Dhoni have led India to T20 World Cup victories in 2024 and 2007, respectively. Before the big night, the legendary cricketer also attended the semifinal between India and England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. On the other hand, Rohit was the tournament ambassador.

Well, the Men in Blue delivered a powerful performance against New Zealand and created history. Batting first, the Indian team posted a massive total of 255 for 5 in 20 overs, which was the highest score ever made in a T20 World Cup final.
The Indian bowlers then completed the job in style. New Zealand batters could not handle the bowling attack, and they were bowled out for 159 in 19 overs. India eventually won the final by a big margin of 96 runs, becoming the first team to win the T20 World Cup at home as well.
After the historic night, Dhoni made the most of the occasion to return to social media after a long gap to congratulate the Indian cricket team. He also shared a special message for the head coach Gautam Gambhir that shook the entire social media.
Dhoni called Gambhir playfully “Coach Sahab,” stating, “Intensity with a smile is a killer combo.” Taking to Instagram, MS Dhoni shared a picture of the champion side and wrote, “History gets created at Ahmedabad. Big congratulations to the team and support staff and to all the fans of the Indian cricket team worldwide. It’s such a pleasure to see all of you play.
Coach Sahab, your smile looks great on you; intensity with a smile is a killer combination. Very well done. Enjoy, guys (Bumrah ke baare mein kuch na likhoon tou hi acha hai). CHAMPION BOWLER).”

When Gautam Gambhir questioned MS Dhoni hype
For many years, the bond between MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir has been one of the most discussed topics in world cricket. Fans and media often talked about a possible rivalry between the two legends, especially after India’s World Cup 2011 triumph at home.
The main reason behind this is Gambhir’s criticism over Dhoni getting almost all the credit for the victory. Dhoni’s match-winning six became the most iconic moment of the night and was replayed countless times over the years. However, Gambhir had also played a brilliant 97-run knock that helped India recover from early trouble and lift the World Cup after 28 years.
Yet, fans and media overhyped Dhoni’s iconic six at the packed Wankhede Stadium, and Gambhir didn’t like that at all. Gambhir openly slammed the media and fans, repeatedly saying it was the efforts of the entire team, not alone the captain’s. And then, their strong personalities and different opinions at times created the impression that there was tension between them.
