The German national football team suffered a historic defeat in their World Cup 2026 qualifier opening fixture on Thursday. Julian Nagelsmann’s men were beaten by Slovakia 2-0, marking the Die Mannschaft’s first away loss in the World Cup qualifier.
German Beaten by Slovakia in World Cup Qualifier
Starting their World Cup 2026 qualifier bid with a massive ambition, Nagelsmann’s side failed to put on a strong performance. German dominate ball possession, but can’t seem to find the right spirit as they were taken down by their opponent.
Despite having more of the ball, Germany struggle to break down their opponent and things got more complicated when they go 1-0 behind three minutes before half-time. David Hancko put the home team ahead with his effort which gave his side a lead going into the break.
Germany tried to get back on level terms, but instead of drawing level, Nagelsmann’s side found themselves in bigger trouble. Slovakia managed to double their advantage, this time through David Strelec’s goal on 55 minutes.
The visitor continue to push hard in the remaining minutes, but can’t seem to get evetyhing working, especially up front. Germany couldn’t even snatch a consolation goal, giving them a disappointing result on their World Cup qualifier opening match.
