NEW DELHI: In a remarkable opening performance at the World Championship, India’s young squash talent Anahat Singh, currently world No. 62, secured victory against American Marina Stefanoni, ranked 28th globally. The Indian teenager displayed resilience, recovering from an initial setback to clinch a 10-12, 11-9, 6-11, 11-6, 11-6 victory on Friday.Anahat’s next challenge comes against Egypt’s world No 15 Fayrouz Aboelkheir, who advanced by defeating her compatriot Hana Moataz 3-1 in the USD 656,500 tournament.In the men’s singles category, India celebrated another success as Abhay Singh, ranked 38th, eliminated Swiss player Nicolas Mueller, the world No. 25. Singh secured his first-round victory with scores of 11-7, 2-11, 11-7, 11-6.Singh will now face Egyptian world No. 13 Youssef Ibrahim in the subsequent round.
