By Greg Hart, CEO of Coursera

I’m excited to share that Coursera is launching an app in ChatGPT, announced today at OpenAI’s DevDay. This partnership marks the first time an online learning platform has been made available as an app on ChatGPT — making trusted, world-class educational content even more accessible than before.

Every week, more than 800 million people use ChatGPT, and one of the most common use cases is learning. Now, these users will be able to access relevant Coursera videos and information in ChatGPT conversations, making educational content more discoverable and turning everyday chats into dynamic, interactive learning experiences.

Coursera’s new app in ChatGPT, built on OpenAI’s Apps SDK, will bring high-quality courses from the world’s top educators into the flow of questions and practice, helping learners move from curiosity to credentials faster and with greater confidence.

To access the Coursera app in ChatGPT:

    • Users can start a ChatGPT message with “Coursera”, like “Coursera, can I learn data analytics?”
    • ChatGPT can also suggest the Coursera app when it recognizes that Coursera content may be useful to the conversation.
      • For example, if you’re talking about learning a particular skill, ChatGPT can surface the Coursera app as a suggestion so you can watch a lesson to learn more.

By putting trusted, verified learning into the hands of hundreds of millions of people, we can help them gain the skills they need to pursue economic opportunity and prepare for the jobs of tomorrow.

“ChatGPT is quickly becoming one of the go-to tools for people who want to learn something new. But the most powerful learning experiences happen when human expertise and AI work together. By bringing the expertise of world-class educators and institutions within Coursera into ChatGPT, learners can more easily find trusted content, build job-ready skills, move their careers forward, and unlock new opportunities.” – Leah Belsky, VP of Education at OpenAI

Coursera and OpenAI have a shared commitment to expanding access to education and ensuring AI is used to bridge — not widen — the opportunity gap. We’ll continue to work together to explore new ways AI can make learning more personal, interactive, and scalable — so that wherever you are, and whatever your starting point, you can build the right skills to grow your career and open doors to opportunity.

We’re proud to be the first online learning platform partner — and one of the initial launch partners overall — in OpenAI’s new generation of apps in ChatGPT, and we’re excited about the possibilities this unlocks for learners, educators, and employers everywhere.

Learn more about our app in the OpenAI blog and explore Coursera on ChatGPT starting today.
