Newcastle United have reportedly rejected Liverpool’s first official bid worth 110 million pounds for Swedish international striker, Alexander Isak. The Magpies are said not to welcome any bid for their star forward until they can get a worthy replacement for him.
Newcastle Rejected Liverpool’s Opening Bid for Alexander Isak
The Reds’ strong interest towards Isak has been widely known as they are keen on acquiring his signature this summer. Despite already securing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, Liverpool remain determined to snatch the Sweden international for the upcoming season.
As reported by The Athletic, Arne Slot’s team have already submitted their official offer to Newcastle for Isak’s signature. However, the initial proposal, worth 110 million pounds, has been rejected by The Magpies.
Newcastle are reportedly not open to letting Isak leave at the moment, especially since they have yet to get a proper replacement. Eddie Howe’s men would prefer to keep their star striker for another season, but the Swede seems set to leave.
Newcastle Struggle to Get a Replacement for Isak
Isak’s persistence in leaving the Magpies for Liverpool is certainly making things difficult for Howe’s side. However, they still have the Sweden international under contract for another three seasons, so they are not in a rush.
That’s why they will only consider moving him once they can secure a proper replacement for their starting forward. Unfortunately, getting a new top striker doesn’t seem like an easy task for Newcastle for the time being.
Currently, their preferred target is RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, but Newcastle are getting strong competition from Manchester United. The striker is yet to decide on his future, but there’s no guarantee that Sesko will pick them.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are not giving up their pursuit of Isak, but won’t be planning to improve their bid unless there’s an opening from Newcastle. The Reds would prefer to wait until the Mapgies give a clear sign of willingness to sell their star player.
