Australia National Cricket Team captain Pat Cummins lost his brand-new Baggy Green cap just moments before the toss in the first Test against the West Indies in Barbados. Pat Cummins had planned to sport the new Baggy Green, specially made by former manufacturer Albion, from the ongoing two-match Test series between the West and Australia.

Unlike many Australian legends who proudly wear their original Baggy Green until it falls apart, Cummins decided to retire his old one after 68 Tests and start the ongoing West Indies tour with the custom-made new Baggy Green cap.

It was as special as the Kookaburra currently holds the contract to make the iconic headwear, but Cummins requested Albion, the original maker of his debut cap from 2011, to create his replacement, keeping in mind the tradition and his sentiments.

However, the captain got the approval from Cricket Australia, but things took a strange turn. Cummins proudly wore the new cap during the official pre-series photo shoot with the West Indies skipper Roston Chase. But by the time he walked out for the toss, it had mysteriously vanished.

Despite serious efforts, Cummins’ prized Baggy Green cap couldn’t be found. With no other option, the Australian skipper was forced to bring his old, worn-out Baggy Green back into action. He was seen wearing his old cap at the toss in the first Test against the West Indies.

Well, Cummins’ new cap is still missing. The incident has left Cummins stunned, especially considering the Baggy Green’s legendary status in Australian cricket. Players like Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting, and David Warner wore their Baggy Green caps until they were barely holding together.

Pat Cummins becomes the latest victim after David Warner and Greg Chappell

Interestingly, Cummins isn’t the first Australian cricketer to experience this kind of mishap. Last year, David Warner made headlines when his Baggy Green went missing after his luggage was stolen, and he made a public plea to return his special cap. Before Warner, Greg Chappell had a similar heartbreak when his cap disappeared from a Brisbane storage facility.

Despite the cap drama, Cummins let his bowling do the talking. The Australian skipper stayed focused and picked up three crucial wickets in the first Test. He played a strong supporting role to Josh Hazlewood, who led the attack with a brilliant five-wicket haul in the second innings. Together, they helped Australia to crush the West Indies by 159 runs in the first Test.

Steve Smith set to be available for the second Test

Meanwhile, Steve Smith is likely to return for Australia’s second Test against the West Indies in Grenada after recovering from a finger injury that he suffered during the WTC Final 2025 against South Africa at Lord’s. Smith recently trained in New York using softballs and rejoined the team in Barbados after their big win in the first Test.

The right-handed batter still has to clear a few medical checks, with Tuesday’s training session to decide his fate. If fit, he’s expected to bat at No. 4, which could push Josh Inglis out of the XI in the second Test against the West Indies.
