Liverpool, Tottenham, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest were in action as Premier League teams continued their 2026/27 pre-season games on Sunday.

The Magpies faced Strasbourg at home and the Reds took on Como at Anfield, while Forest encountered Brest at the City Ground.

Spurs played a training-ground match against Hoffenheim, having beaten the German club 3-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.

Tottenham vs Hoffenheim: Maddison returns in draw

James Maddison made a swift and unwanted impact on the Tottenham midfielder’s first appearance in almost a year following a serious knee injury.

The former England international lost possession to Hoffenheim’s Leon Avdullahu and conceded a penalty in his attempt to retrieve the ball.

Adam Hlozek, who curled a shot against the crossbar before Spurs went ahead in the game a day earlier, converted from the spot but Ben Davies swiftly replied by heading in £85 million signing Mateus Fernandes’ cross.

Luca Williams-Barnett gave Spurs a half-time lead when the 17-year-old curled in to turn the scoreline around, only for Valentin Gendrey’s volley to earn Hoffenheim a 2-2 draw, although Kevin Danso hit the bar from Williams-Barnett’s cross.

Newcastle vs Strasbourg: Magpies lose on penalties

Newcastle lost at home to Leverkusen on Saturday and Matthias Jaissle’s new team were back at St James’ Park to face Ligue 1 club Strasbourg, going ahead when William Osula struck from Jacob Murphy’s cross in the 38th minute.

Gessime Yassine fired the second-half equaliser past Ewen Jaouen, who was making his home debut alongside Aladji Bamba and Bazoumana Toure in the 1-1 draw.

Yassine also hit the crossbar before the shootout ensured, Newcastle missing three times as Strasbourg scooped the VisitMalta Weekender trophy.

Forest named a markedly different team from their late win over Leverkusen on Wednesday and went ahead when Chris Wood converted a penalty after Luca Netz was fouled by Mama Balde.

February signing Netz completed the scoring in the 2-0 win by slotting in before half-time from Nicolas Dominguez’s pass.

Callum Hudson-Odoi continued his comeback from injury for Forest, who gave a debut to goalkeeper Steven Benda at half-time.
