As per Abhishek Tripathi, an unnamed selector from Gujarat revealed that Rohit will not feature in the major tournament.
Abhishek Tripathi said, “This is a 500% sure that Rohit Sharma won’t play in the World Cup in 2027. There is no doubt about it. Till when will you play in the series? Till when will we play? A selector from Gujarat told me. In the Australia series, it was told last. Then Afghanistan was told to be last.”

As per the reports from other journalists, it is reported that the Men in Blue will play 11 matches in the major event, and said the selector asked them to look at the average and use their own logic rather than relying on names. The journalists did not want to reveal the selector’s identity, but said that they were asked to check Rohit’s performances and find the average.

Then, in the South Africa series, he was also excellent, scoring a total of 146 runs across 3 innings. He had an off series against New Zealand and failed to score a single fifty.
In the Afghanistan series, he scored a total of 143 runs across 3 matches in June 2026, averaging 47.66. Later on in the England series, he got starts in the games but failed to convert them, and in the third and final ODI, a vintage Rohit performance was seen as he scored a daddy hundred in the last game.
