Australia‘s second innings in Grenada began in disastrous fashion as Jayden Seales struck twice in his opening two overs, dismantling the top order within the first 12 balls. After Australia managed to take a slender lead of 33 runs, Seales delivered a dream start for the West Indies, first removing youngster Sam Konstas before trapping Usman Khawaja plumb LBW. Both dismissals were carbon copies of prior vulnerabilities, Konstas’s eagerness and Khawaja’s indecision. With just four runs on the board, the visitors were in deep trouble, and Seales had injected late energy into the hosts’ campaign on Day 2 of this crucial second Test.

Jayden Seales breathes fire with late double blow to trouble Australia

Seales didn’t waste any time. On just his fourth delivery, he lured Konstas into a false shot outside off, a tempting back-of-a-length ball that Konstas should have left alone. Trying to punch it too hard, Konstas dragged it onto his stumps with an inside edge, marking a nightmare start to his Test career.

In his very next over, Seales upped the ante. Bowling from a slightly wider angle, he sent in a delivery that seamed sharply back into Khawaja. It was a near-replica of Khawaja’s recent LBW struggles, caught deep in the crease, beaten by the movement, and struck low on the back leg. Despite reviewing, he found no respite: ball-tracking showed three reds, with the ball crashing into middle stump. Within just 1.5 overs, Seales had turned the tide sharply in West Indies’ favour. Australia stood reeling at 4/2, their top order once again exposed. The sharpness of seam, the precise length, and the early energy with the new ball from Seales had tilted the momentum immediately.

Momentum swings in favour of West Indies in Grenada on eventful Day 2

Day 2 of the Grenada Test belonged to the bowlers once more as the momentum swung with sharp bursts of drama and discipline. West Indies resumed their first innings with hope but were eventually bundled out for 253, conceding a 33-run lead. Brandon King stood tall with a superb 75, showing composure and timing against Australia’s potent attack, while Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph added vital lower-order runs.

Nathan Lyon led the Aussie bowling with a three-wicket haul, complemented well by Hazlewood and Cummins. In reply, Australia’s second innings got off to a horror start as Seales once again rattled the top order. He struck twice inside three overs, removing both Konstas and Khawaja cheaply, mirroring his first-innings impact. The visitors crawled to 12/2 by stumps, still ahead by only 45 runs. With Cameron Green and nightwatchman Lyon at the crease, and several key batters yet to arrive, the game hangs on a knife’s edge. West Indies will fancy their chances with the new ball fresh and conditions favouring seam. After two innings of disciplined bowling and flashes of brilliance with the bat, the hosts have clawed back into a contest that seemed to be slipping away.
