The New York Yankees hit nine home runs in their 13-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday, making them the first MLB team ever to have multiple games in a single season with nine or more home runs. The Yanks previously accomplished this feat against the Milwaukee Brewers on March 29th, 2025.
“To do it twice. That’s remarkable,” said Yankees manager Aaron Boone after the win. “Just a really impressive offensive showing against a team that, obviously, is not always easy to score runs against.”
The Yankees got off to a blazing start with back-to-back-to-back home runs from Cody Bellinger, Aaron Judge, and Giancarlo Stanton in the first inning to give them a 3-0 advantage.
“It was awesome to see,” said Stanton during a postgame interview. “I think we hit nine tonight. It’s incredible across the board.”
The Yankees’ onslaught continued into the second inning when shortstop José Caballero hit a two-run homer to extend the lead to 5-0.
“Yeah, it’s a special one,” Caballero told reporters after the game. “That’s why they are the Bronx Bombers… Hanging out with those guys (Judge and Stanton), something has to be contagious.”
The Rays would get two back, but Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a homer in the third inning to bring the lead to 6-2. In the next inning, Stanton hit a three-run home run, followed by a homer from first baseman Ben Rice to increase the lead to 10-2.
“I think we were all ready to go at 7:30, and it didn’t happen,” Stanton said while discussing the rain delay that pushed back the start of last night’s game. “So, we had to take it out on them a little bit.”
Cody Bellinger and José Caballero would each hit one more home run apiece, bringing the Yankees’ scoring output to 13.
“I mean, a lot of good swings, obviously,” Aaron Boone said. “You’re just kind of cheering that on. These games, every run’s big… I don’t take it lightly when we’re able to really add on and have a game like this.”
“We have really good offense,” Cody Bellinger told reporters during a postgame interview. “I think, ebbs and flows of a 162-game season, right? It’s not always going to be pretty, but we all believe in each other, and the talent’s there. We’re doing a good job of putting it all together, and it’s been fun to be a part of.”
The Yankees will once again be in Tampa taking on the Rays as they look for their fifth consecutive win. The first pitch in that game is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. EDT.
