Jason Robertson for Dylan Larkin may not make sense for the Dallas Stars
Robert Tiffin of Stars Thoughts: There have been some reports of the Dallas Stars checking in with the Detroit Red Wings to see what the asking price for Dylan Larkin could be. There was also some speculation about a Jason Robertson for Larkin trade. That doesn’t really make sense for the Stars.
The Stars already have Wyatt Johnston, Matt Duchene, and Roope Hintz down the middle. Duchene on the wing didn’t go well last year. Hintz may be okay on the wing, but he’s not the goal scorer that Robertson is.
You can’t fault the Stars for checking in to find out the cost, but moving out Robertson for Larkin, may not make sense for them.

Mock trades for Dylan Larkin

Red Wings get: Anton Lundell, 2026 ninth-overall pick, 2026 second-round pick
Panthers get: Dylan Larkin and Sebastian Cossa
- Giving up Lundell and the No. 9 is too much for Larkin, but the Panthers could use a goalie like Cossa. Sergei Boborvsky is a pending UFA and they don’t have anyone under contract for next season.
Red Wings get: Charlie Stramel, Danila Yurov, 2027 first-round pick
Wild get: Dylan Larkin
- The Red Wings organizationally need help down the middle. Neither may be a top-line center, but middle-six would help. Stramel’s stock is high after a solid season at Michigan State.

Red Wings get: Pavel Dorofeyev (RFA) and Tomas Hertl
Golden Knights get: Dylan Larkin
- The Golden Knights are overpaying, but they are gaining a lot cap flexibility. Hertl has four years left at $6.75 million. They only have $4.6 million in projected cap space (Alex Pietrangelo‘s $8.8 million can get LTIR’d) and they want to re-sign Rasmus Andersson.
