As India sealed the ongoing 3-match ODI series with two consecutive wins, for the remaining match of the series, the Indian team management is expected to make a few changes in the line-up.
In the pre-match conference in Chennai, batting coach Ryan ten Doeschate provided multiple hints about the possible playing eleven for the third ODI against Afghanistan.
Arshdeep Singh is set to be dropped from the playing combination
Arshdeep Singh, who played the previous match in Lucknow and took 3 wickets, could be on the bench tomorrow when the Men in Blue will be up against the Afghans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
If Arshdeep Singh drops from the side, and the team continues to play with three pacers, then Prasidh Krishna is expected to be back in the line-up. With Prasidh, the pace trio could be Prasidh, Prince Yadav, and Gurnoor Brar. As Prince and Gurnoor are newcomers in the team, they are expected to retain their spots.
KL Rahul as an opener?
The former Netherlands batters also mentioned that Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was dismissed for only 4 runs in the previous match, is likely to keep his place safe ahead of India’s UK tour. As Jaiswal is set to be one of the openers for the third match of the ongoing series, KL Rahul can remain as the number 5 batter for now.
In the previous match, which was at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, India posted a mammoth total of 402, one of the highest totals posted by the team in the ODIs, with centuries from the captain, Shubman Gill, and Ishan Kishan.
Shubman Gill batted at number 3 in the previous match
For the match, Gill demoted himself to number three to accommodate Yashasvi Jaiswal at the opening slot. Ishan Kishan came to bat as the number four batter, Shreyas Iyer at number 5, and KL Rahul was the number 6. While Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan scored centuries each and 48 from Rohit Sharma’s bat, Yashasvini Jaiswal was dismissed for only 4.
Jaiswal was originally not in the team in the team manager’s plan when the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee announced the team. Because of Virat Kohli’s hamstring injury, the young southpaw was named in the team as a replacement.
Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, and Prince Yadav were impressive
As Team India is set to play a back-to-back series after the conclusion of the ongoing contest against Afghanistan, the workload management of the key players is under the scanner. As Arshdeep Singh is among the mainstays in the white-ball team, he can be rested in Chennai, ahead of India’s tour to the United Kingdom, where they will face Ireland and England, before flying to Japan for the 2026 Asian Games, which will also be a T20 format tournament.
Prince Yadav and Gurnoor Brar were impressive in the previous match. Yadav returned with 2 wickets, and Brar claimed 3. Arshdeep Singh also clinched 3 slaps to confirm the 170-run victory over Afghanistan. Prince Yadav was impressive in filedings as well. He took a diving catch to dismiss Ibrahim Zadran.
