One of Jennifer Coolidge‘s former costars is hoping the busy actress will pencil in a catch-up on her schedule soon.
Ahead of the March 19 season 1 finale of ABC’s Shifting Gears, Kat Dennings spoke with PEOPLE about how proud she is of her 2 Broke Girls costar, who is in the midst of a major career moment thanks to her Emmy-winning performance on seasons 1 and 2 of The White Lotus. However, Dennings, 38, admitted it has been a while since she and Coolidge, 63, had a chance to talk.
“Oh my God, I’ve tried to get back in touch with her, but I think she’s too busy to talk to me right now,” Dennings joked.
The Shifting Gears star added, “I’m just kidding. But I have reached out just to tell her how amazing she is and I didn’t really ask any questions so maybe that’s why she didn’t answer?”
Despite being unable to reconnect with Coolidge recently, Dennings is so happy to see her former castmate doing so well.

“I think she’s just an iconic person and actress and I’m so excited that she’s had this renaissance,” she said. “She really deserves it.”

Dennings and Coolidge starred together in the 2011 to 2017 CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls, in which the Legally Blonde actress played Sophie, the upstairs neighbor of Max (Dennings) and Caroline (Beth Behrs). Since then, Coolidge has gone on to win two Emmys for her work on The White Lotus, garnered a bevy of commercial roles and starred in films like Shotgun Wedding, Riff Raff and the upcoming A Minecraft Movie.

Seann William Scott — who stars alongside Dennings in Shifting Gears — also worked with Coolidge on the American Pie franchise. Like Dennings, he also had nothing but nice things to say about the legendary actress.
“She’s a legend,” Scott, 48, told PEOPLE. “I haven’t spoken to her in so long for no other reason other than just it’s kind of how it is in our business … but yeah, I agree, she deserves to be in everything and to be crushing things.”
